Would you risk your life to save another person? (Private voting)

Contributor: Princess-Kayla ♥ Princess-Kayla ♥
I know this is similar to the pet one, which is how I thought of this. My mom always told me and my brother that she would never put her life in danger to save anyone or anything else. Her reason being she had us to take care of and couldn't leave us alone. Then she got ticked when I told her that I'd gladly sacrifice myself for a stranger if I had to.

So would you?
Just friends/family, or would you do it for a stranger as well?

I hate to be cynical, but there are a number of situations where I would hesitate to help someone. You may see two people fighting and running in to try to break up the fight won't end well because neither are savory individuals. If it's a stranger trapped under a burning car, then that's different and I wouldn't hesitate to help them.

It is a sacrifice would definitely make for a loved one and would probably make for a stranger. The situation would determine the actions, though.

What a weird question Kayla...

So if I am walking down a street, turn my head and see a girl getting raped in an alley? Yeah, I might just bust my Kegelcisor out of my purse and give the fellow a few good wallops.

If I were Arnold Swartzenegger and like.. I had to risk my life to save the mother of future of man kind, again I would risk my life for a stranger.

Other than not, the lines get a little blurry. But for family? Anything it takes.

I probably would for close family, but other than that probably not.

For my kids, in a heartbeat. Anyone else, I dunno.

For a family member/loved one, sure.

For a stranger? It would completely depend on the circumstances. If the stranger was a child, I'd be much more likely to do it though, that's for sure!

I'd only risk my life to save someone who I'd miss if they were no longer around.

I understand this completely.

Badass: Totally agree. And yeah, it's a weird question. I was just curious.

indiglo: I think that would have a lot of it for me. Depending on the circumstances would depend if I did it for a stranger, but if said stranger was a child I would do it in a heartbeat.

I risked getting major surgery to donate my kidney to a complete stranger, does that count?

Yes. That was an amazing thing for you do do. :]
Is there somewhere you go and say "Hey I'd like to donate my kidney?" or do have to be on some kind of list and they just call you when they need you? I've always thought about donating mine.

I would risk my life for family and a partner.
I would help a stranger until it came to the point where it definitely meant I'd lose my life.

Honestly I don't know. I guess it depends on the circumstances. Do I have a reasonable chance of succeeding at saving the victim? Is there some chance I could survive the situation - these and other questions would flash into my mind - but I don't know how I would respond.

I absolutely would. For one thing, my mother would chastise me to death if she found out I had decided not to. For another, I would feel ridiculously guilty for as long as I lived knowing I had let someone die when I could have done something. I figure it's better to risk death than to live a lifetime of guilt and regret! Of course, this only applies to situations where I think there's a reasonable chance of success. Also, I guess this would only apply to spur-of-the-moment type stuff - pushing someone out of traffic etc - as opposed to, say, someone killing themself slowly with a life of excess.

I would most certainly risk my life to save a family member and a couple of select friends. These friends are people who have made a huge difference in my life and I really can't imagine my life without them. So its either try to save them and succeed and life continues with them or if I die saving them, at least I don't have to live without them.

I think I would, yes. Same as with a pet, I have a very protective nature. It's more so with children or with my friends.

Well I live in Canada and we have a few networks that you can just call up and say hey I want to donate a kidney (donating to strangers is somewhat ethically controversial so not all places do it). The first hospital I called said they didn't do stranger transplants and gave me the contact info to a place that did (in Toronto). So I called them up and we started the process, first with a general questionnaire, then a psyc exam, blood tests, then if you pass all that they go into advanced kidney testing. Then if you pass all that, they look at the top of the list of those awaiting transplants and pick the top one that matches your blood type and test their blood with yours to see if it's compatible. All together it took about a year of testing before performing the actual surgery.

If you're in The US, I'm not sure which networks they have but I'm sure there's one! If you have any more questions about the process, feel free to message me.

I'd only risk my life to protect my kids or my sister and dad. My husband would risk his life for our kids as well.

I have a lot to consider when it comes to risking my life for any purpose. I have a child. I think the majority of parents would sacrifice their lives to protect their kiddos.

I don't know if I could risk my life to save a stranger, though, because if I'm gone, who's going to take care of my kid? Will he end up bitter because of it?

I wish I could say absolutely, hands-down, I would risk my life, but I'd definitely think twice about it.

Same answer for me! It would depend on the situation. My children depend on me. And are usually with me. If I saw something was going down chances are they would be with me. Trying to save someone would put them in danger as well. I'd yell and pull out my cell phone, but chances are I can't help because I have my two sons to worry about. I really can't say what I would do for sure.

Certain situations for a friend/family member/stranger? Maybe. It would depend on the situation and what my chances of survival were. I have children to consider.

Take a bullet or something? Just my kids. And only my kids. I would do anything to make sure they have full lives.
