Groupon Supports Torture Porn (studio) Tours

Contributor: Ansley Ansley
Groupon is a website where you can get what amounts to a gift card for services or experiences at a rate lower than their face value. It seems they have offered their program to a company called Kink that produces torture* films and BDSM gear. They host walk-throughs and the lucky ones may get a glimpse of a scene being filmed at that very moment. You can read more about it here.

* The definition of torture here is actually consensual BDSM and would be considered normal among the community.

Naturally, some people have a problem with this and have called for a boycott. And well, people boycott things all of the time for really dumb reasons so I'm not focusing on that aspect. I just want to know...

Discounted or not, would you go?

I think I would be curious enough to at least want to see it and pray that unlike the bassist for the Scorpions, I would not be watching snuff pornography, a la 8MM.

I love Kink, and have subscriptions to a few of their sites. I would love to tour the Armory if I was out that way, and I'd do it for regular price, but their discounted price was pretty good It's interesting that this tour would be on groupon - but the building itself is pretty interesting, and quite large.

Torture porn? Boycott it. Consensual BDSM porn? Let people get their jollies wherever they can! I personally wouldn't be interested, but there are too many things already stressing me out for me to try and worry about what other people like to get off on.

Just looked at their site. It's called "War on Illegal Pornography". If they're having sex with children or dogs, that's a great site to raise awareness and get them in trouble! Consensual sex between legal partners is NOT ILLEGAL IN THE US! This is getting worse the more I read...

I'd actually like to tour the Kink.com place lol

I did find the video on the link interesting. She goes on and on about how it exploits women, like there aren't submissive men getting the same things done to them. She never once mentions that it exploits men.

I am surprised the tour is listed on groupon though.

I'd take the tour if it was free, but pay for it? Not even with a Groupon discount.

I might go, out of curiosity.

Kink isn't bad if it's consensual. And Taylor is right- I'm very familiar with the site and there are entire sections devoted to femdoms and submissive men, so not just women are "objectified." Men are all to often disregarded as sexual beings in porn as is, and this seems to be one of the few non-homosexual sections that pays attention to them in terms of where the camera is focused. It's interesting.

It did worry me that she found accounts of models where the site completely ignored their requests to stop. I worry that they're exploiting them, but I also wonder if the models are too spacy to actually use their safe words.

Hmm, that's a very interesting question - about them being too spacy...it's a possibility.

I would love to go. I think it would be really, really interesting as it's not something I'm interested in doing myself but the psychology behind it fascinates the hell out of me!

"It did worry me that she found accounts of models where the site completely ignored their requests to stop."

If this is true, I would hope that models would seek legal redress. However, from what I've read online, many reputable performers who have worked for Kink say that the crew is actually very solicitous of the talent, and will periodically stop scenes, without use of safe words or any obvious signs of distress, just to make sure everyone is alright.

I wonder if these girls are spacey or out to make some extra cash? There have been some instances where women in the industry alleged they were assaulted by directors or actors, only to withdraw the accusation when their fee was bumped up a few hundred dollars. Or it could just be rampant miscommunication, of which the most infamous example has to be Rocco Siffredi and Roxy Jezel (do a search if you want to know).

I honestly doubt that she actually found the accounts she is calming these type of people tend to have a very liberal relationship with the truth.

Example the protest site on the front page says porn : "is robbing our nation of talent, innovation and leaders." Really and here I thought things like China and the crap economic state where doing that but no it all porn's fault. (Really this is a fine example of what sex theorists have called the fallacy of “exaggerated scale”, imagine if I said tween literature was “robbing our nation of talent, innovation and leaders”, because of crap like Twilight? )

If they did how come there are no links of even quotes from the account? If you found evidence link to it. It actually very ironic if they actually did find it, you find evidence that a women is being raped and instead of link to it and giving her a voice you only use it to further your own agenda. Is sexual abuse in the sex industry a problem? Yes. Has it accrued at kink? Possibly, is this site a reliable source to find out, absolutely not.

But that would be 100% TRUE if you said it.

You make some excellent points. IF there are "accounts" of women wanting to stop and the scene was not stopped, why not provide a link with a warning to those who don't enjoy Kink Porn.

Also, as a practitioner of some kink, I can say with little issue; you don't forget your Safe Word! Not only that, "NO" is the worst safe word ever! Hell, My Man has said I say "No!" when I have an orgasm. It's a reflex, probably due to the intensity of the experience, I certainly don't want to stop! If you play hard, you simply DON'T forget your Safe Word.

Especially when engaging in Ravishment Play, using the word "No" is common, it doesn't mean "No" as it would during a date or with someone you don't know well. I think these girls on Kink.com know when to use their safe words. I have seen the interviews after the Scenes and they usually seem to have had one hell of good time!

As for only women being "subjected" to this treatment, Kink.com has an entire part of the site dedicated to Subbie Men, called "Men in Pain." There are all kinds of things on that site, and as a major studio, I doubt Kink would do anything that would jeopardize their legal standing in a difficult field to work in anyway.

Kink.com is an incredible company. I've had the pleasure to do some contract work for them since I live pretty close to the armory and the only way someone would have issue with Kink.com is if they have an issue with sex in general. Kink treats their employees great, keeps a historical building in good shape, gives back to the community around the armory, and offers tours of their facility to the curious. They even ran free tours for locals in the neighborhood when they first moved in so people could see the kind of work they do there.

There are a couple of people claiming they were assaulted and such here.

However, the guy posted the exact same statement on other websites for a "friend." People could also be making things up for their own agenda.

I'm tempted to work out a little and apply with kink.com myself.
