XS Condom for 12 Year Old Boys? Ethical? Disturbing?

Contributor: Linga Linga
Ok, so... Being the mother of an 8 year old boy (only 4 years younger than these are deigned for) I'm completely fucking shocked and disgusted by this but I'm also in half the mind that there are 12 year olds being sexually active and if this can prevent some becoming pregnant or getting a disease then that's good right?

In a perfect world we wouldn't have any need for 12 year old condoms but this world is far from perfect and I think it's sad that it's at the point where we have to protect our "babies" from unprotected sex. I will say this though, my boy will be hog tied and locked in his bedroom before he gets the chance to ever need a condom at 12.

Another problem, thinking about it, is that these kids just might not buy the condoms, for fear of the retail assistants and their seemingly judgemental eyes, or peer pressure for being seen to have a smaller penis.

I support it fully. People decide to become sexually active at different ages. I might not think that twelve is old enough to become sexually active, but if someone is making the consenting decision to do so, I want there to be protection available for that person.

Oh, goodness. I don't even know what to think about this. The first thing I thought was: 'Twelve? But twelve year old children are practically babies!' I think that its sad and very possibly horrible, particularly the name of the product. Its obviously not just about protection (Hotshot? Really?), but I do think that IF a twelve year old is having sex then it should be safe sex.

Mhr. It just all makes me sort of uncomfortable and sad.

It seems that the issue for most people is that it's being targeted at children. However I don't think there'd really be an issue if they were just making an extra small condom. I would probably buy a box for hubby :p

I don't support 12 year olds having sex, however, if they are doing it, I'm glad they have a safe option.

Better protected than not, I guess.

Making condoms available to younger kids isn't going to be the big reason for them having sex. I don't think it really encourages them. If preteens are going to be having sex (although I don't think it's very common, but it does still happen) they're going to be doing it regardless, so making the safe sex resources available can only be a good thing. Also, like someone said earlier, this can also be useful for men with smaller penises than average.

I don't agree with 12 year-olds having sex, but if they're going to do it, I'd rather thy be protected.

As a single mom with a little boy I will have the talk and will provide him with as much information as possible. I hope he doesn't start having sex that early but if he does I would rather he use protection than nothing at all. :/

Seems really bothersome, although so is the idea that prompted it- that 12 year old are having risky sex.

I don't support the idea of 12 year olds engaging in sexual behavior so young, but I know you can't stop them and they need to learn to be safe. There needs to be more sex ed in schools.

This still weirds me out and completely baffles me, but it needs to be addressed and dealt with.

And "hotshot"? Okay, whatever. lol.

I think it depends on the country on whether or not is ethical. In places like Africa and India, where sex is a big deal i think that it could help prevent AIDS and other diseases from spreading. But in more advanced countries i don't think it is as ethical. I think feminine condoms or something more permanent could be a good idea for young girls in places that raping of young women occurs just to prevent them from becoming pregnant or catching a dies es at young ages.

Although it seems like a good idea. I believe the rate of teenage pregnancy increases drastically at 15-17. NOT 12. So i also think its kind of early. BUT then again its europe. those crazy kids

I basically agree with everyone, but as a younger girl, I've gotta say... Half of Gym class in 6th and 7th grade seemed to be people making plans to hook up at the late night at the YMCA. I never went myself, but it happened, and seemed to happen quite frequently. So, I like that there is a condom available, because safe sex is always good, but even then I was a bit weirded out by 12 year olds having sex. Now it's just worse.

Not for it, but I bet the smaller ones would work for other males as well.

But seriously, education is key.

I'd say I support it, only because I really want EVERYONE to be protected. I don't believe condoms being available make children/teens have sex, so if 12 year-olds are having sex, I want to avoid a 12 year-old pregnancy.
