Here is an update on the age old debate: Can your B.O. land you or lose you a hot date??? link

Unfortunately, it seems all the brilliant scientists around the world are no closer to unlocking this riddle despite forcing test subjects to sniff the sweat of forty sky divers. Pheromones be damned!

Who can really blame them for trying though? I think this sort of "science" only works on the Jetsons.

Yes, both. If a person doesn't smell good to me, I lose interest in them. If they do smell good to me, that's a tremendous attractant.

I prefer everyone around me to have no smell at all. I did end a relationship after one date once because his natural body smell (not BO, just his body) was just too strong. I wonder if anyone ever told him? Or maybe he found someone who liked it, like the people who inexplicably like the smell of patchouli.

I think they've known for a while that the people that smell best to you have the opposite antibody configuration. It's nature's little way of ensuring genetic recombination and diversity. Of course, since we're talking about human beings, stuff like attraction by smell is routinely overridden for other considerations.

I've heard what Toygirl heard. My husband can smell good, bad and kinda funky and I still love it - not the case for oh so many others before him!

I just saw a special on this a few weeks ago.

It turns out that there smell of sweaty guy has different effects on the noses of women and that the most receptive day (when women find it the sexiest) is when she's ovulating.

There are even markers that make women react more negatively to the smell of the males in their family. This was a blind smell test experiment, so they didn't know who was who.

I think it was on the Science channel.

Supposedly, the best thing you could do before you go out to the bar, party, etc. is to masturbate immediately before-hand. Apparently, you release a TON of sexual pheromones that get the ladies more in the mood.

My boyfriend can't smell a damn thing. It's nice being able to fart freely in a relationship.

It depends. One a first date I'd probably be repelled, but I actually like the salty, sweaty, natural smell of my partner. He thinks thats weird, but it really isn't--this is him at his most basic. I'm sure if he were out running for four hours in the Texas heat I'd have a different opinion, but he lives in the cold and has a desk job. I'm good with that scent.
