How far down the road do you discuss with your partner

My husband and I make tentative long-term plans. They are more like goals. When to buy a house? How to save for retirement? How to save for travel? Etc.

We discuss a lot. There are ids involved so we are trying to see what the future holds before we introduce them.

We've been together for long enough that we have kind of accepted that long term plans/discussions will pop up every now and then.

We've been married 9 years been together 13 and still don't talk that advance in the future. We dream of the day when he's finished with grad school, maybe 5-7 years from now because we're not taking out any loans and can't afford but a class here and there. That's about the extent of our talk. We already have two kids so we're not talking about babies or anything.

The hubby and I have all kinds of plans or dreams that we'd love to accomplish, some sooner than others. We're always talking about the future with one another.

We've been together about a year, and we've already talked about getting engaged in several years if we're still together and eventually getting married and having a family and a cute hipster apartment.

But, it's more loose talking and less serious overly committal stuff.

I'm not allowed to think about the future. Sure, it's been two months, but I can't even fantasize about a future together because we're on completely opposite sides of the child issue ... yeah, no point in thinking there will be a long-term anything. (Although, I suspect that if I was on his side of the child issue, he would have proposed already - he decided back in high school that he eventually wanted me to be the mother of his children. *sigh* The Universe is a cruel bitch.)

For the most part, we're taking this a week or two at a time, although we vaguely hint about doing things in a couple of months' time.

With my boyfriend we discuss everything. From tomorrow, to sending our unborn kids to school, to where we want to retire. Everything. I am a big planner...but I am also insanely spontaneous. So having a slight plan allows me to have more flex room to be crazy.
