When does an LDR get to be too much

Contributor: nova2014 nova2014
I've been in an LDR for about 3 years with 7 months of the LDR being 2-3 hours away from each other per year and the other 5 months being 5-15 minutes away from each other. We're only in an LDR for college and next year will be the last year it'll be an LDR hopefully. But it's beginning to wear on my bf. When did your LDR begin to get too long distance for you and what happened? Did you just go with the flow, change things around, break up, etc?

I think it gets to be too much when you can't recover from the distance.

Long distance works for short periods of time, with the promise of getting together geographically in the end. Without that promise it doesn't really work.

When you can't recover from the distance definitely. It helps a lot to have a definite end point and be able to visit, otherwise it quickly becomes unworkable

I am right with you on the years. It has been 3 years for me too. I sometime want to give up but I keep just saying it will get better or I hope it does. It should be when I move. If they don't come my way then I am not sticking around another year.
