Does thinking about sex help you sleep?

Contributor: Rin (aka Nire) Rin (aka Nire)
I was talking with one of my coworkers the other day about what we do when we're having trouble falling asleep. I told her that, most of the time, thinking about sex is the most effective for me. She replied that doing the same would keep her awake.

In general, thinking about pleasant topics helps you to relax and subsequently drift off. But sex, for many, is also a very exciting topic and thinking about it can result in a person getting "in the mood," which might make sleeping harder.

If you were trying to sleep, would thinking about sex or fantasizing help or hinder you?

An orgasm helps me sleep - not thinking about it. Thinking about leads to an erection and that leads to...

Well you get the point...

sometimes, it's definitely nice to play out a scene in my head to fall asleep to. it always translates its way into my dreams somehow too, so that's a plus!

Well there have been times when thinking about sexual things was the prelude to really nice dreams, but it's more likely to to leave me awake and sexually frustrated. Now great sex precedes wonderful sleep!

Ah, I'm envious! It's very rare for me to have sex dreams, and when I do they're usually... unpleasant.

Ha ha, you're absolutely right. Thinking about sex will only keep me awake, next thing I'll be doing is wake my husband up for some actual sex, after that I'm sure to fall asleep right away!

Ditto, same for me. I try to think about anything ELSE if I want to go to sleep. lol A nice orgasm can help me fall asleep, but thinking about it and not getting it has quite the opposite effect.

Just thinking about it and not acting on it keeps me awake.

Puts me to sleep, but that may be due to thinking of sex scenes in books or movies that were pleasant, rather than fantasizing myself in the act. If I start thinking of my husband and things we would do, I'd probably roll over and wake him up.

I'm a little surprised by the results so far, but it's pretty interesting all the same.

I think it works for me because just thinking about sex doesn't usually turn me on by itself. It's very pleasant, but I have to include some other element to really get going. I will agree with one thing, though: when all else fails, masturbating usually does the trick!

Quite frankly, if I am really tired, I just fall asleep. But if I can't sleep, just thinking about sex wouldn't do it (without external stimulation by another individual); I just read or watch TV until I dose off.

It just depends. Sometimes I can fall asleep and sometimes I just get really aroused and have to act on it.

I can't sleep thinking about sex, I just become more wide awake and agitated. So, my toys are always available and then I will sleep like a rock. An orgasm does wonders for my sleep!

If I'm not already ~in the mood~ and it's just fantasizing, then yeah, it does often help me get to sleep, if only because I'm focusing on something and my mind is fairly calm.

I generally don't think about wild, crazy sex, but I will think about cuddling and some playful touches... caresses... no wild sex, though... I think that would keep me awake
