Cleaning and Safety of Materials

I've noticed lately, as probably have we all, that there has been much confusion about the different types of silicone, elastomer, elastomed, and the like. I've also noticed some erroneous or incomplete information in the reviews about care and cleaning, probably because the reviewers are under incorrect assumptions about how to clean and sterilize a toy, and what materials can be sterilzed and how. I have probably been guilty of this transgression, especially in earlier reviews, just because I didn't know any better.

The Guide To Materials is excellent, but can be difficult to find. I was wondering if it might be possible to put a chart with cleaning and hygiene methods in the materials section for easy reference, especially for new reviewers. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a chart, but a specific reference as to whether or not something is boil or dishwasher-safe would be a great help!
Like I said, I know the information (or what we know of it) is out there, I just don't think it's often being properly utilized and was thinking it might be handy to have it more accessible to even new reviewers.

I've also had questions about nonporous materials like acrylic--is it safe to clean with a bleach solution? It is listed as nonporous in the guide, but it doesn't list that as a method of cleaning. Sorry for the stream-of-consciousnes s post, I would just like to be accurate in my reviews.

Agreed--a quick reference sheet would be really nice

Demi- good question, too, because acrylic is an odd material. It's not a good idea to clean with alcohol or boil, but can be sterilized using bleach solution or Betadine. Acrylic also scratches very easily (though small scratches don't ruin the functionality, they do damage the look of a toy)- so dry with and store in soft cloth.

I noticed a "materials rating" has recently appeared on product pages, and that is really useful and can get customers over to the materials guide quicker. What I would really LOVE would be for a box like that one to be on each review page. Then we wouldn't have to feel like we have to explain the details of materials over and over again in our reviews.

True. I'd just like a comprehensive guide to what is bleach safe, boil safe, etc. etc.
