Do you notice yourself giving better ratings over time?

Contributor: Antipova Antipova
So when I first started reviewing, I made a promise to myself that I'd never give something 5 stars unless it was fantastic and changed my life. Like, 4 stars would mean "great stand-up product that delivers what it promises," and 5 stars would mean "even if you weren't considering this before you should buy it because your life will never be the same."

So for the first 50 or so reviews, on our pages where they display your 10 most recent reviews, I would have usually one, occasionally two, and sometimes no five star reviews showing among my ten most recent reviews.

But I just looked today---and I have 3! And assuming I keep filling out my Dual Density Debate series, I'm going to have 4 pretty quickly! It surprised me a lot.

So---am I in a good mood this month? Or is this a fluke? Or have I gotten better at choosing toys?

Have you noticed this happening to you, too?

I've given out more 5-star ratings as I've learned about myself and have gotten better at choosing products that fit my needs.

I've given out more 5-star ratings as I've gotten more experienced, but for some other reason, or it's a fluke.
I've given fewer 5-star ratings because I'm becoming more discriminating about sex toys.

I have been choosing items that are better suited for us and also with the higher toy limits for reviews, I am able to get higher quality items! I think this greatly affected my ratings!

I'm actually becoming more picky. I hope you keep getting things you really like!

Some of the toys that I gave 5-star rating to when I was just beginning really only deserve 3 or 4 stars in my current opinion. I give a lot of 5-star reviews now because I'm really picky about choosing products and I do a lot of research before buying.

But I've also given 5-star reviews to push assignment items. I guess I just got lucky and got assigned really cool things.

Now that I know more about what I like, I'm able to make better choices when buying, and I'm also able to use my toys more effectively and get the most out of them.

I think I've gotten 200% better at picking things that will work for me, so I seem to have been giving out the five stars a lot lately as well. I will make a bad choice every now and again based on a sale or an impulse buy and then back down to the low ratings we go.

Like FemmeFlo, some of the toys I gave high ratings to in the beginning don't deserve the ratings they got. While I had a lot of toys at the time, I didn't have the "reviewer's eye" to things. I didn't notice things like vibration pitch (turns out that makes a big difference for me) or exactly how powerful something was (just if it was/wasn't). I also wasn't aware of my size limits before and had a lot of toys that were too big that I would use and ended up hurting me. Figuring out measurements has been a big help.

So the toys I had before I started reviewing are all pretty much trash now. They all weren't suited to my preferences. They were just things that were available at the sex shop. At the time, I would have given them high ratings because I didn't have toys that worked really amazing for me to compare to. Thank goodness for Eden!! It's amazing that I could collect a bunch of two and three star products for almost ten years and not just get annoyed with buying sex toys.

To me, five stars to go to things that either a)really rocked my world in a major way or b)end up in my regular rotation. I have a fair amount of things, so if I find myself reaching for something over lots of other options and especially if I reach for it over a new toy, that's a five star product to me. I'll give five stars to things that manage to pack enough power for me (rare) or didn't have enough power but had a good enough shape (or something else about it) to make up for the lack of power. Anything that gives me a genuine G spot orgasm pretty much gets an automatic 5 stars unless it's poorly made since almost nothing gives me G spot orgasms.

I generally try to rate a product based of how it performed for me personally. If it's something that gives me a unique experience, or somehow improves my sexual life and has very few flaws I rate it a 5. I just reviewed a new penis ring Double Decker Twin Bullet Love Ring that you actually edited, I was sooooo close to giving this a 5 star rating. What stopped me was that it had a couple of flaws in its design that kept it from being that 5 star product. But even at 4 stars that is still a good rating

It's the same where I work, when I'm 1 on 1 with a customer, i'm always completely honest with them about what i'm selling. I'm not going to tell them a product is fantastic if I used it and thought it was junk. But everyone is different, some products suit some people better than others.

I feel like I've come to expect more out of my toys/products over time. I do think I'm less likely to give a 5 now than previously, because I know how good a toy can be when it works for me. So if it falls just a little short, I automatically take stars off.

I am a lot better at picking my toys out though. That's for SURE! lol

I've gotten snobby - I no longer buy toys that don't already have awesome ratings, because I'm not just looking for some cheap buzzy thing to use once. I am actually investing in my nightstand!

My rating style has never changed. I rarely rate things on how I feel they work for me, though I may on occasion if I'm really upset with the quality of something. I usually rate based on the quality of the product itself and how others buying it would feel about it, if it's worth the money, if it's going to last for a long time, if it won't, if the description is misleading, and a handful of other criteria.

I just rate well if I see good content. :/
