#AskEden - Help! I keep sending requests...

Contributor: TheirPet TheirPet
I keep sending requests to mentors and they keep getting cancelled by the system. I sent in a support ticket and they said to only send one request at a time and I do. I never send out another request until the previous one has been cancelled by the system.

Am I just getting refused? Is there a glitch? I really want to try out the mentor program but I can't even get the first step down!

Help!

How long is it between when you submit a request and get a cancellation notice?

I think mentors have at least 24-hours before the system automatically cancels the request, so if you're getting one almost immediately, it may be a glitch.

The big reason this can happen is if a mentor gets more than one request on the same day. You can only accept one person, so when you accept one the system cancels out any other pending requests which will show as "cancelled by system" on your side. You may want to PM whoever you want as your mentor to see if they are available and if they have any pending requests. This way if they have one pending for today but will have some openings in the next day or two they can tell you what day to submit your request so it will be accepted.

Another option would be to message the mentor directly first. That way you can discuss whether or not you area good match before you submit an official request.

I totally agree, I know that sometimes it's a hard choice, but if you send me a message before I pick I'm MUCH more likely to pick the student who contacted me.

Don't give up, keep trying! And don't just request anyone. If there's someone you really want to work with you can also contact them and ask them when their next class spot is opening up.

You might be having a hard time because you already have your upgrade. Try looking through the list from the back. Mentors at the front of the list get the majority of student requests. If you want one now, check out the mentors farther into the list. Also, it helps to talk to the mentor first. So, they can save the placement for you.

It's probably like mentioned earlier, the mentor has more than one pending request and when they accept one the system automatically cancels any others that are in line. I personally hate this option when I have more than one slot open. I usually send a message to any others that were cancelled and tell them why it was cancelled and if they still want me as a mentor to go ahead and try requesting me again. It's always best to message the mentor you want to work with so they know you are trying to get in their class. Good luck to you.

Thanks for all of your thoughtful replies. I'll message a mentor I think fits me first before I send out a request.

The system REALLY needs to clarify between declines and system stuff, ugh
