You get someone with experience writing reviews, knows there way around the site and can get you products to review. It's not really a class per say, you write your review and submit it to them. They check it over, offer suggestions and either send it back for revision or publish it. After a minimum of two reviews, they graduate you and you become an advanced reviewer. Of course some folks stay longer to get more proficient. If you write good reviews from the start and get them done pretty quick, I would say a month would be a good time frame. Figure two weeks per toy.

Good thread to learn more. The Mentor Program

Thanks Tim! That was helpful. I was searching around for a list of classes and wondering what the topics might be. LOL

A few additional question, if you don't mind.

1. Is signing up for the Mentoring Program required to becoming an Advanced Reviewer? (The Review Program page says you just need to submit two good reviews to become Advanced.)

2. What are "push" assignments?

3. Is the main benefit for Advanced Reviews to participate getting the $25 gift card and getting Eden points? Or, do they benefit in other ways?

I hope you don't mind if I answer. :p

1. No, signing up for the mentoring program is not required for one to become an advanced reviewer. If you do not participate in the program, you can submit an upgrade request to the rank of "Advanced Reviewer." The community gets to vote on whether you seem ready or not and over the two week period you need to at least five votes to pass. The information is here under "Upgrade Requests."

2. If you participate in the mentor program as a student, your mentor can assign products for you to review. It needs to fall under a certain price guideline ($30) but once it's approved, you will be sent the toy so you can review it!

3. Yes, I believe so. Some may be in it for the love of helping others and improving the quality of the reviews posted on the site. People probably have different motives for becoming mentors but $25 to spend on more toys certainly doesn't hurt.

Pretty much nailed it, but I am not sure of Drakoni's third question. If Drakoni is asking about the benefit for the Mentor, then Disco's answer is correct.

On the other hand, the main benefit of being an advanced reviewer is being able to increase your rank and thus request more expensive product. You can also participate in other programs like the Descriptive reviews and Video reviews. Although, the advanced reviewer does not get a $25 GC for graduating, that goes to the Mentor as long as the student has not been upgraded.
