Do you down rate for blurry pictures?

I just wanted to say, I've seen the pictures in your reviews, and I think they're perfect! So just goes to show - you CAN take very useful pictures even with a "crappy camera".

Pictures don't influence my rating of the review itself, do blurry pictures deserve a lower rating?
I don't think it should matter.

Kindred has a good point.

Also, it's good to realize when not to include a photo. Two examples, in my review for the DONA Bath Salts, I tried to get photos of the salts IN the tub, as they were first put in and while they were melting. The light was bouncing all over the place, between the shiny surfaces of the spout and the handles and the tub itself, plus the water. I decided to leave the photos out. Second, a vibrator I recently reviewed made the most beautiful patterns in water when vibrating in a full sink! However, I had the same issues as when I tried to photograph the DONA salts. Despite the fact that it would have made a beautiful photo if it came out the way I SAW it, it would have been fantastic. But, the photos turned out blurry and reflections were all over. I decided to leave them out. Why? They added nothing to the review.

So, although I wouldn't rate lower for blurry photos. In my reviews, I do try to make decisions on what to include, photograph wise and what not to.

We're all going to have an occasional blurry photo, but if the pic doesn't add to the review, it's probably best left out.

Nope. We are all not pros at taking pictures. I read what you have to say first. The pictures help here and there.

A blurry picture will not necessarily have me downgrading a rating on a review, but I think if you are going to take a picture of something it really should be clear and should add to the details you can provide in the review (and not just be there for the sake of having a picture). Generally my rating comes from looking at the full content.

I do not, and like I mentioned on your review we all don't have quality cameras that can take exceptional photos. I have to take pictures by myself, so for my lingerie reviews I have to set the self timer for 10 seconds and hope that it gets everything and I'm in place before it flashes. I personally can't afford a nice camera, and know others are the same way.

I am more concerned with the use and performance of the item than I am with pictures. I will not rate a review down, but will act like there was no picture.

Nope I won't rate down for that. If the pics are blurry, it's still better than no pics at all. At least someone took the time and effort to put them in the review.

No I never would. I know it can be a pain to take pictures of yourself and sometimes they are just blurry no matter what. As long as I get a good idea of fit, or size, or whatever they are showing I am content. Also the review itself is more important to me than the pictures.

Aww. Thank you! That made my day.

Hopefully I can take even better quality pictures eventually, though. I just have to save up and get a better camera! Unfortunately, a thing like that isn't at the top of my priority list when there are things like food, gas, and a place to live above it. Lol.

I guess I can understand what you mean, then. I don't think I'd ever downvote for pictures because, as stated, some people don't even HAVE pictures and they should still get good votes in their review is good. But I can definitely see it being frustrating when someone includes a bunch of pictures where you can't even make out the item. In Badass's case, I think it was totally uncalled for, though. I mean, yes. Some of her pictures were blurry but the ones that were fuzzy were pictures of packaging, not the important photos. So that's a bit much, in my opinion. But yeah, I guess if all your pictures suck, they shouldn't be included but even a slightly blurry picture can be useful, depending on if you can make out the general image.

Umm how do you know why they rated you low? Did you send them a message and ask? The person could just pulled an easy reason out of no where.

If the text review is good, i am more forgiving. Some items are hard to photograph.

I think unhelpful photos should be left out, but of course everyone has a different standard of when a photo is too blurry or over/under-exposed to be helpful.

I do have a general impression that the really talented photographers are more likely to get nominated for the rumble - we're all visual creatures, and seeing great photos with the measurements and details and such right there is a help. I think subconsciously the photos do influence us, even if we know they shouldn't, so maybe I should have clicked 'other'.

Not at all, most of the time I'm just pleased that the review even has pictures. I read so many reviews, the ones who at least attempt to add pictures really stand out. They're a great little bonus especially on lingerie. Not to say that all reviews need them, but if someone tries to add pictures I wouldn't vote them down for bad quality.

Really, it depends on whether or not I think that the person took the picture and just wasn't able to get a better picture, or if it looks like they just haphazardly took and posted the photo without caring.

I should add, it is also based on the rest of the review. If it looks like effort was put into the whole review, chances are the photo wasn't their fault, but some reviews, you can just tell.

Of course not.

I do find blurry pics disappointing though, but I find it's mostly when the person is taking the pics herself, which is difficult to get great pics from.

Yes. I actually will down vote a review IF the written portion of the review does focus or leans on the photos. If this is the case, then yes. I will down vote.

Other than that, no. I read the reviews for the written portion not for the photos or the video. But on the other hand, I have downvoted reviews if there are oodles and oodles of unnecessary pictures, or pictures where the reviewer claims to use standard sized objects to compare, but those "standard" sized things are only available in the States.

LOL!!! I've been nominated for the Rumbles a few times; some with a wee bit blury pictures, and some with no pictures.

But looking at those that have won over the past few weeks, yes. They've had some really talented photos.

NO I believe you are voting for the review in writing not the pictures they add as extras. You aren't even supposed to vote on the pictures, a review doesn't have to have pictures and that should be noted.

I don't down rate, but if it's a really blurry picture, I do think it would detract from the review.

I'd never downrate for a picture. I mean, pictures are a bonus, if they're there I will gladly take them, but they don't need to be taken with the latest nikon technology to be useful.

I said other because when I am reading a review and looking at the pic that is intended to be describing what I am reading, if it is supposed to be a piece of lingerie let's say, I don't want it to look like I am looking at a pic of fifi running your toddler down in the living room.

I wouldn't give it the worst of ratings, and I would leave a comment asking what exactly it is I am supposed to be looking at

Since I don't even own a camera, it would be hypocritical of me to pass judgment on anyone's photos.
