Depends on how you're going to use it. The Acute is nice and small, and if you're a man it will find the prostate fairly well. There are really only two smallish problems: it's a bit short, and the base is a bit flimsy (or was, they may have redesigned it in the past couple of years). In general this will only be an issue if you're planning on using it in a harness. Hand-held the Acute is pretty good.

I recently purchased the Acute and the base is much smaller then for example the Curve. I haven't tried it yet in a harness, but I assume the issue still exists.

If you're wanting to use it in a harness (or just want a bigger base to grab) then the Curve is a great choice - I love mine. It's not that much bigger in circumference, and the bigger base and longer length make it much more useful.

As a first anal toy, I DO NOT recommend the Tantus Acute. I've used it lots of times and I'm an experienced anal user. While the Acute is a quality dildo that's probably wonderful for vaginal stimulation, it's quite uncomfortable for anal stimulation, especially for a beginner. The reason is that the head of the Acute is way too bold and pronounced. It makes insertion very difficult and uncomfortable (unless you're already warmed up). Also, the ridges along the shaft make thrusting a little uncomfortable. I found that my butt was a little irritated after thrusting.
Instead, for a beginner toy, I highly recommend the Tantus Silk medium. It's completely smooth without a bold head, and it has a large base perfect for holding on to. They're both a comparable length, however the Silk medium is 1.1 inches in diameter while the Acute is 1.25 inches in diameter. For a beginner, smaller would be better.

Texture does tend to irritate, at least until you've really learned to relax. For the more advanced player a "head" can add to the stimulation substantially, since it creates a bulge that stimulates more at a point (great for prostate stim) - but it is harder to insert.
Vixen Smooth Operator is similar to Silk Medium, and the Curve is halfway in between the Acute and Silk in terms of head and texturing.
