I like balls (or a wide base) on any toy that's used anally. When a toy doesn't have that, I worry that (when lubed) it's going to slip out of my grasp and up up up it'll go. I probably would take a pass on any toy that didn't have something to keep it from going all the way in.

Balls can be useful sometimes as a handle, or just aesthetically pleasant. As long as they're not large enough to be cumbersome I don't mind them.

Balls can be fun for riding dildos, but can get in the way for other uses. I prefer riding, so I appreciate the balls being there for balance and just for something to play with. If I liked thrusting more, balls could get in the way. I'm perfectly happy with my non-realistic dildos having no balls as long as there's a base!
