My O2 Mikey's head is losing its shine. :( Anyone else's?

Hello,
I'm having a minor problem with my O2 Mikey. Tantus's O2 realistic line features a matte shaft and a shiny head. The effect is visually appealing and I liked it a lot when my Mikey was new, but lately, his head has become less and less shiny. It's not uniform either, it's still almost as shiny at the tip as it was when new, but it gets progressively less shiny closer to the shaft. I haven't had Mikey that long, and have used it approximately 20 times since I got it. I've boiled him a few times, but normally I just wash him with antibacterial soap.

Of course, the fact that the head is becoming less shiny doesn't affect Mikey's performance at all, I'm just extremely OCD about my toys. If anyone who sees this owns Mikey, or in fact any of the other O2 realistic dildos: Mark, Adam, Luke, or Max, would you mind posting the status of the shininess of its head, and how long you've had it? This probably seems like a rather silly post, but like I said I'm obsessive about my toys, and if my Mikey is just showing normal signs of 'aging', then I'll be able to get over it easier.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to post! I really appreciate it.

Can't speak for the O2 line (I've only had my O2 Mark for a couple of weeks), but I have a few VixSkin toys and they display a similar behavior. VixSkin is extremely shiny when new, and then gets duller the more it's taken out and used. Perhaps this is just normal for dual-density silicone?

Oh no, this makes me a little nervous. I have a VixSkin Raquel, and while I would not say that it's necessarily shiny, it does have a sheen, but the realistics in the VixSkin line do look very shiny in Eden's pictures. Hmm, I will have to watch my Raquel closely to see if it changes.

I agree with you that this seems to be a trait of dual-density toys, for my regular silicone toys don't seem to do this. Granted, I don't use those very often because dual-density is so much comfier.

Thanks for your response, and I hope your Mark fares well!

You're sure you haven't used any products with silicone with it? Condoms?

If you're concerned, you could ask Tantus if it's a normal thing. It doesn't sound like anything beyond an aesthetic aging characteristic though.

I only use water-based lubricants, and I never use condoms with my toys. They are stored near each other, but each dildo is snug in its own cotton bag. I'm pretty sure that it's not reacting with anything.

I may ask Tantus about it; I didn't really want to bother them with such a trivial question though. That's why I'm hoping to get some owners of O2 toys to let me know if their toy is acting like mine as it ages. I'll be able to put it out of my mind if it's just normal aging, but for now I don't know for sure, so it's been bugging me.

How do you store it? My first guess would be mild abrasion of the surface. A plastic bag might help to keep it shiny.

Another possibility is oils clinging to the surface like they do with Tupperware. Grease-cutting dishwashing detergent and hot water would help in that case.

Thanks for the suggestion; I just gave it a bath using dish soap instead of the hand soap that I normally use. No improvements, so I guess the lack of shine must be abrasion-induced. I don't think I've done anything to exasperate this though; I don't clean my toys with sponges and they are stored very carefully in separate cotton bags. I'm just hoping some other people can confirm that this is normal aging of the toy, and that I didn't get one from a batch of wimpy silicone or something.

My Mark looks a little less shiny, but I think it might be a coating from the soap I've been using on it.

Yeah, hopefully that's all it is. My Mikey did that too at first; it seemed to accumulate soap buildup, but when I boiled it the shine returned. Lately though, its loss of shine seems to be permanent.

In that case you could try wiping with alcohol.

I decided to take advantage of the sale that's going on right now and buy another Mikey. I really want to see if it will develop the same shininess problems as my first, and if it does, it can't hurt having a spare, right?
