Which type of dildo should I begin with...material comparison please!

Contributor: biwa biwa
Hi all..

New to this site...and enjoying my shopping. I have a few questions...I have MANY vibes from Hitachi to a couple of small bullet-types, BUT am needing a dildo for that "full penetration" feeling, as my boyfriend has gone the "only oral" route...which I don't mind, but sometimes you just have penetration.

My questions are basic: which materials are considered best and why? i do have a very small glass dildo, but need something bigger. Not sure what material to go for..any comments, advice, links would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance...

Look through the material listing that Eden has. The safest materials you can have is Metal, Glass, and/or Silicone. But, if you're willing to keep up with the maintainace of other materials, knock yourself out. Do some reading first, and remember, some toys are silicone and can attract lint like a freaking magnet.

I agree - silicone is probably the best place to start - once you find the sizes and textures you like - branch out to glass and silicone - even wood, but I don't have any experience with wood.

Silicone, it's quality and safety are unmatched while still providing comfort, durability, and when matched with water based lube are very "slick". Pick a size and shape you like, than go from there!

I don't own a silicone toy (I know, I know!! But one is on its way to me as we speak) yet so I can't vouch for or against them. Nonetheless, from what I know it seems to be the best choice.

But I would definitely warn against materials with low safety ratings on EF -- everyone talks about how things like jelly shouldn't be shared, but it took me years before I found out that some people have awful allergic reactions to them as well.

I'd start with silicone, or hard plastic, to figure out what types of thing you are looking for, girth wise. Harder materials like glass, metal, wood and ceramic feel girthier because they don't have any give to them. I've also heard about realistic dildos made of silicone (vixskin, I think?) that might be a good thing to look into, though I don't know that much about it because it's not really my thing. Silicone is softer than plastic, but either of those might be good to look into if you aren't willing to spend too much on something you may not like.

I would go with glass. Its easy to keep clean and you can temperature play
