Corset Lacing Tips

Contributor: PropertyOfPotter PropertyOfPotter
I have a corset and I have yet to wear it for my man. I really want to surprise him with it, but I'm having a hard time getting it tight in the right areas and looser in others. I don't have anyone else who can help me, is there something obvious I'm overlooking that will help me get it laced properly and put on by myself? This might seem like a silly question, but I've put it on, only to take it off and try tightening it again, only to put it on and have to take if off and readjust again. Ugh! I'm going crazy!

The last and only corset I have ever had was a pain as well. I got it laced and all was well I thought till the next day. I was so sick that my husband had to rush me to the E.R. so my guts could be drugged into submission. I don't think my tips will be helpful. I hope you all the luck with your task. Sorry

I've only ever helped a friend tighten the corset that was part of her Halloween costume.

But don't they make front lacing corsets now to make self tying easier?

I wear corsets extensively. What I have figured out--after having to put them on myself for many years since I want to surprise my hubby--is that they are actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Here are the steps I use:
--loosen it up to the point where you have about 2" of space.
--Put it around your torso and hook the front.
--grab the laces in the middle of your waist and pull like hell.
--you might have to do a few tugs right above the waist and right below the waist.
--pull the back up at the top after tying the laces.
--pull the back down at the bottom.
--use your thumbs to spread the gap between the panels in the back. You do not have to get every one of them.
--wear it around for about 5 minutes. Adjust as necessary using the steps above from the third one on down.

Practice, practice, practice!!!

Thank you all for taking the time to comment!

js250, I don't totally understand what you're saying with pull the back up at the top and pull the back down at the bottom.

I feel so stupid asking this question, and even stupider that I don't understand what you're saying!
