I've got the "One Size Fits Most" blues!

Contributor: (k)InkyIvy (k)InkyIvy
Ladies (and Gents),
Have you ever experienced this? You're looking at clothing or lingerie or whatever, and you see this thing that just makes your heart race. You love it. It's perfect. You imagine how people (your partner, in this case) will want to ravish you when they see you in it.
And then you see the size. The dreaded "One Size Fits Most".
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO!

*sigh*
I'm a big girl. I can't wear "one size fits most". I need plus size. I have big thighs, big hips, a big butt, and big boobs. I will NOT, by any stretch of the imagination (or fabric), fit into a "one size fits most" garment. And it's SO frustrating!
I'm sure at least some of you have experienced this problem before! Tell me about your experience. Were you able to do anything about it?

I don't personally have this particular experience, but I can sympathize with getting excited for something that you suddenly realize won't work on your body. One good way to cut back on the OSFM Blues is the search by your size. That way, the search will only yield items that WILL fit your body! It doesn't solve the problem of many lingerie items not being made to fit a wide range of body types, but it at least mitigates the resulting disappointments. At the least, you won't be getting your hopes up for something only to find it isn't going to flatter your figure.

Sadly, I did that. That's actually the search that turned up the Bikini Top and Panty. I got so excited about it since it had turned up in my size specified search, but upon arriving at the product page, I discovered it was some sort of fluke. This definitely doesn't come in my size.

I find that in the size search, I have to leave out 'XL' when looking up plus sizes. For some reason most companies' idea of 'plus size/XL' involves a 34-inch waist (about a size 14 at the most). So with 'XL and above' sizes you may get over 900 products, but take out the 'XL' and you get barely under 300. Even less if you take out '1X'.

I suppose we should be lucky they're stocking it at all. (I've had to give up some companies because they simply will not stock plus size [yes, I'm looking at you, Victoria's Secret!] despite all the money they could be making ... but they'd rather not have the money of a large percentage of the population. Their profit loss, I guess.)

Ahhh, hm. Must be a fluke! I read a LOT of lingerie reviews, and if it's helpful at all, this is a short list of some of the higher rated plus sized pieces. Maybe others that have had good experiences with plus sized lingerie could post their favorites? It sucks to not be able to wear something you love, but maybe we can help you fall in love with something else?

The Sequin Waist Cincher from Coquette is gorgeous and has gotten great reviews from curvy ladies. I also own it (in a M) and I love it. If you are into loud, sparkly stuff, you may like this! Miss Voluptuous has a great review (with pictures) of it.

The Purple & Black Mesh/Lace Babydoll from Coquette is from the same line as the bikini top and bottom you linked to. Same color scheme and materials! Miss Nessa has a great review (with pictures) for that. It's another item that has been well loved by curvy ladies.

Leg Avenue's Peak-a-Boo Garter Mini Dress has tons of great reviews. It's very revealing, and only comes in red, but if you're okay with those things then this might be a good option! Illusional's review is very helpful!

I hope you find something that you feel sexy in and that fits you well!

Yes I've felt this way before. Many times the OSFM doesn't fit me... though I have lucked out a few times!

Usualy I bought a lingeries for my wife, but I have never faced this problem. Her size fit the -one size- and medium as well. So before I order I read the sizes available and then make the order. I think you forgot to read the sizes available.

She's talking about an item erroneously being listed under a filtered search for XL+ clothing. It's not that the bigger sizes were out of stock, rather, they were not there to begin with.

I am at the far end of the OSFM scale, and it *may* fit, but it isn't very attractive

I'm in that awful middle ground between "one size" and "plus size", and it blows. The one size items usually seem to work best on an 8 or smaller, while plus are made for 14+, and I'm a 10/12.

WHY do lingerie companies even make one size items? I get that it's cheaper to mass produce, but wouldn't you rather offer a wider selection of sizes that would mean your customers are happier with their purchase, and thus more likely to buy from you in the future? Bleh.

I am the opposite end, I am a size 4-6 and I hate One Size Fits Most too... they are always too big in places. It seems they should just label it as Medium. It will always be smaller or bigger for other sized gals.

I just hate seeing one size fits all yeah its a one size fits all if you are sizes 2-8. Nothing against people are those sizes I just hate how clothes makers put that on their tags

I fit into some one size clothing nicely, but others I have to order an XL, or my twins or booty hang out. When I see one size, I'm irked because the average American woman could not fit into most of the one size clothing. I've actually lost interest in shopping for lingerie lately because I feel like the manufacturers are not listening to their buyers. Enough of my ranting. Good luck, girl!

I know exactly how you feel, happens more often than I care to admit. Along with that goes just because I'm big does not mean I'm old and want all frumpy, older people clothing...lingerie or anything.
