I wish that lingerie designers understood...

Contributor: Crystal1 Crystal1
I was talking to a friend this morning about how I should go into lingerie design, since most companies seem to have no concept of what a woman's body is like. Here are some basic truths I came up with, what would you add?

I wish lingerie designers understood that...

*"One size fits most" does not fit most.
*Women are often different sizes on top and bottom.
*Cup sizes above a C exist.
*Boobs need support, gravity exists.
*I really, really don't want to have to hand wash everything.
*Sometimes leaving a little to the imagination is sexier than showing it all.
*Almost nobody likes the crappy thongs that come with lingerie.

Those are some REALLY good points. Those thongs that come with the sets are usually really crappy and cheap. And there's really not much support. Not unless you're going to pay tons and tons of money for some stuff.

I agree on all points! Especially that women exist above C cups. Also especially that women can be different sizes on top and bottom. I have wide hips and finding something that works top and bottom is difficult. This goes for dresses as well. In fact, I have trouble with pants that don't make a gap at the waist.

i agree with all of yours!
i'm surprised that there is no option for different sizes tops and bottoms. it's the only thing stopping me from ordering. my small bum does not compare to my DD bust.
and being only 5 feet tall.. one size does NOT fit all

Those are all great points you make! Pretty and sexy things that offer support and you can actually sleep in would be heaven! I hate having to choose between pretty and comfortable. I usally end up wearing a yoga top that has a shelf bra and men's pajamma bottoms. Comfy, but not at all sexy.

The thong that comes with a set seems like an after-thought to most designers ... "Oh, crap, we need to cover the naughty bits, too - just tie some floss together in a panty-shape." (Or better yet "Let's make the fabric for the sensitive places out of pulled-apart steel wool!")

And I just cannot wrap my head around 'S-M-L-XL-etc' for BRAS!!! You know, those things that can be bought in half-size increments for superb fit? Even a crappy bra from Dollar General has a better fit for a 1/4 of the price. Am I really paying that much more for the color?

I guess the current crop of designers grew up thinking lingerie is still costume wear (with the stuff being sold as Halloween costumes nowadays, I can see why). But it's hard to justify buying a $60 set that is uncomfortable, doesn't fit right, and will fall apart after three uses.

Sometimes the thongs are decent but yeah, they can be pretty trashy.
I wish they would consider style, but it's like I've seen plus sized sites where women are wearing hoochy shorts and middriffs.. I'm like.. oh come on.

I agree, so much, especially with the boobs part!

Want to add that:

Itchy materials are itchy and should never be used!

I think this is one reason why I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amoureuse line of lingerie. WOW. Their stuff comes with PANTIES that are comfortable and cute. Their fabric is so nice. Their prices are so reasonable.

I buy mine from several places online - I think my favorite selection is at fullbeauty.com because they seem to have the largest selection. I have something like 6 of their products and they are well made and comfortable and sexy.

I'd add, that not all plus-sized women are DDs or bigger. =/

There are brands (mostly European) that make very sexy lingerie for women with bigger cup sizes. They are expensive, and Eden doesn't carry them.
I recommend Prima Donna. They make bras, panties and lingerie. They are generally very tasteful, high quality, come with support, and cup sizes that goes to F for most style. It's very expensive though.

I think it's worth it to spend a bit more than usual on high quality bra/lingerie. Instead of buying bunch of cheap ones, save your money and buy one or two high quality piece. They really make you feel special

Amen sister. I am often very frustrated for those very reasons.

My top is still a small, my bottoms are more of a medium now, so I've had a harder time finding full sets that fit properly. Something is usually too tight.

This is why I tend not to buy clothes online. Luckily, living in a large metropolitan area I have a few options to get what fits. The added bonus is that most if not all are mom and pop places so I get my shop local fix too.

INDEED. I am an XL/1X with C-cups and I'm always prepared for the possibility that cups/bust areas will be too big.

Perhaps they do understand. Perhaps it's more that "they don't care".

I agree with you so much!

Women that are plus size and petite want lingerie too. Same goes with tall women, regardless of weight.

A large shouldn't have leg openings the width of two of my fingers. You're clothing women, not two year olds. (ie make clothing sizes that are more conventional. Not everyone wants to go three sizes up just so they can breathe!)

Screw thongs all together. They're not comfortable at all and I never wear them.

Me too! I've got 42" hips and a 28" waist and nothing makes sense on my body.

I feel pretty naked, but I have yet to find clothes that make me like my appearance.

PLEASE get into designing lingerie. We could all enjoy lingerie then. There are very few pieces that fit me perfectly without me having to adjust the damn things. And when ya pay those prices - especially heading up to $50 a piece, ya don't expect to have to stitch up areas just so ya can wear it.

My hips are a let down for me. But if I buy big to fit the hips, then it won't fit around the chest. They also think that just cause ya have large breasts, ya must be huge around the back of the chest area too.
