If you regularly write lingerie reviews - will you please share your template here if you don't mind.

I stole (with her permission) Beck's - but I'm trying to decide if I should add anything else or rearrange stuff.

Here is my current template:

My intro
What this is...how to wear it

I try include here what sizes and colors Eden currently stocks this in

Material & Care

Design
I may have a subsection of close-up pictures of lace or something that I feel you might want to see

Sizing

Pictures

my closing -

~~~~
Also - how important is you as a reader to know what type of package it came in? Do you want to see ONE picture of it or is it ok to simply state "it came in a box" or "it came with a black hanger in a plastic bag" etc?
I usually do:
Introduction
Packaging
Sizing
Material
Design
Quality
Care
Experience/Closing
I add in the quality section because I'm pretty picky about seaming matching up and loose threads and such. Or at least I've gotten that way since I've started doing lingerie reviews.
I'm big on packaging! I like one picture of the packaging. I like nice packaging for anything be it lingerie, sex toys, or anything else I buy. I'm probably the only person that cares what the packaging looks like, but I always include it just in case there's someone else that happens to like packaging like I do.
What if it didn't come in a package but came wrapped up in pink tissue paper? Would you want a picture of it like that?
I generally do, but that's probably not necessary. I just do it in case someone is newer and hasn't seen it before. I personally know what the pink tissue looks like now, but before I had gotten anything in that I had read a review that mentioned it and wanted to know what it looked like. That's why I always put a picture of it in. So I don't really need it, but on the off chance that someone else might like it, I put it in there.
Comfort. Tell me how it feels wearing it. Itchy, tight, loose, satiny, etc.
So I shouldn't say "I could barely breathe" or "Breathing is optional"?
Just kidding - I will try to remember to put comfort in there. I do try to say if it isn't comfortable!
Second this. Texture and feel is really important to me. I'm texture sensitive to everything, especially fabrics.
I third this!! Packaging other than the pink tissue would be nice, but the pink tissue is too common.
I usually do the following:
- General Info
- Material
- Care instructions
- Packaging (if applicable)
- Sizing/Fit
Then I do specifics on the actual piece, dividing it into sections depending on what kind of garment it is. Various divisions I'll make:
- Front
- Back
- Cups
- Bodice
- G-string
- Straps/Garters
- Etc. depending on the piece or if it's a set I do a section on each piece of the set.
Then at the very end I'll include my personal comments, personal experience, if it can be worn during sex, and a brief bit on my partner's thoughts/experience with the piece.
I include pictures along the way as needed, and a video review if allowed.
I usually go with something like this:
- Packaging/materials/ca re
- Sizing: what the chart says and how it fits me generally
- What's included: with measurements and detailed descriptions
- Crafstmanship/more detailed information on how it fits. Any weird things I've noticed go here
- Pictures: Front/side/back/extra details
I usually save most of my personal comments until the experience section so I can just tell the story of how I feel about it and what my husband thinks and all of that all in one section.
In light of recent events (well, discussions) I realize that not everyone likes lots of picture, but this is what my strategy is as of now:
When my item arrives:
1. I get a picture of the packaging.
2. I get a picture of the lingerie laid flat (May include inside of garment if I feel it necessary [Wild Night Corset]).
3. I get pictures of accessories (if any) that came with garment.
4. I get pictures of any details on garment I feel necessary (like lace detail, or adjustable straps at different settings).
5. I get front view, back view, side view, three-quarter bust view.
6. I get pictures of any details on garment I feel necessary to get pics of while wearing (polka dot chemise ruffles and weird bust area).
I have to do this during the day and it can take over an hour and a half, depending on how the sun is cooperating (my crappy camera only seems to thrive with natural light).(Polka dot chemise review took almost two hours of just taking pictures, not including when the camera died and I had to wait for it to recharge. My white skin plus the white fabric were being too reflective and every photo was coming back wayyy overexposed....and then too dark, when I lowered the exposure one notch.)
7. Delete all blurry pictures, select clearest, then crop and resize those.
8. Take measurements of clothing.
9. Add in commentary and measurements via paint (YES, I do know how to use text boxes. I'm well-versed in Photoshop, Illustrator, and freakin' Flash, but I prefer to use the dinky Paint program and use the paintbrush because I just like the way the goofy writing looks. Yeah, strange, whatever.)
10. Upload pics to Photobucket.
11. Use pics as visual guide to let me know what goes in the review (Look at each pic and think, "What, if anything, should people know about this picture that is not already blatantly obvious or already written in. Or, if it is written in, will they immediately know what I'm talking about?").
12. Write review while wearing garment so I can potentially comment on feel of fabric as I write review.
13. Tack on washing directions from garment tag at the end of the review.
Anything on sizing, craftsmanship, material etc. is intuitively included as prompted by viewing the pictures I'm working from.
I don't really so much write lingerie reviews very often, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents as a novice that I really appreciate the "What this is / How to wear it" section!
Thanks, all you lovely ladies, for sharing what you know!
I'm probably going to start a thread on this in the review forum...but do you ever get burnt out and find yourself going "Why the heck am I working so hard on these?"
I spent part of yesterday taking photos of a bunch of lingerie - just spent almost an hour editing the 60 photos and adding measurements in text boxes on a couple of them.
I still have the writing to do - plus getting the photos of me in them (even though I've tried each piece and worn it and have thoughts on it).
I think I'm burnt out because I find myself kicking myself for working so hard on a review that's gonna get me 50 points (when I could edit someone else's review - frequently without photos - for 250-400 points.
What keeps you coming back and reviewing?
As I said - I think I'm about to ask this in the review forum - but for me - I love writing lingerie reviews but it does feel like they take me a bit more effort because I like to show the details.
Thank you so much! I love your lingerie reviews, as well. You've said before that you feel jealous of the "smaller gals" sometimes, and are self-conscious as a result, but your reviews always seem full of confidence, regardless, and make you come off as an empowered, self-secure woman, something that cannot be said about MANY *MANY* "smaller gals."
I often find myself thinking, I look okay, but I'll never have an OwlIdentified or TexasMama ass, and my thighs will always be smaller than I like (weirdly, I'm already plus size and wouldn't mind being bigger if I could pack it on in certain places, like other than my back or my arms, for instance). When I was in 8th grade I weighed 240 pounds, then realized how unhealthy I was (especially due to my fat distribution) and decided to lose weight. At my current 180-185 pounds, I know I'm a healthy weight (for my height, build, and musculature), but it's still a trial trying to become comfortable in my own skin, even though I lost all the weight nearly 5 years ago, and I hope that one day I become as resolute as you (at least seem to be).
There's no price on self confidence and contentment, and definitely no shortcuts to obtain it (diet pills come to mind), and I think you are inspirational.
This is going on longer than I intended.....and I need a snack
OH YEAH! Even though I've done very few reviews, I've gotten the "why, exactly, am I putting this much effort into this?" in my head before, and I've decided it's just because I like to help people, even though I really don't like to be around people that much. Writing reviews is a great way to combine those seemingly contrasting preferences. My personal thing.
Oh wow. First of all - if I could give you my ass - trust me - I WOULD! Its one of my least favorite features.
I just turned to my husband and asked him about my butt and he said, "It seems to be a newish fad/fashion to have big butts..."
Uh...when I was growing up the ideal figures was 36/24/36 and a barbie-shaped ass was what you wanted (aka small).
I thought you weighed about 130-150 pounds so I'm tickled pink to see what you weigh because my goal is to get down to somewhere between 185 and 200 pounds. That means your reviews are going to give me even more hope!
I just asked my husband what the sexiest part of my body is...and he thought a moment and smiled and said, "Your heart and your mind".
See..he's learning tact!
I do love doing lingerie reviews and I think they're among my favorite because I feel like I'm really interacting with the comments and helping other plus size women.
I will share one last lesson that I learned years ago. We often compare the worst of ourselves - whether its our bodies, our marriage, our life - whatever - to the best of what someone else has. That's why we're often frustrated and discontent.
However, if we stop looking at the other person and instead focus on us and what we can change about ourselves and enjoy the parts we like - we tend to be happier.
Just a short "life lesson" from an older woman who has found that it helps a lot.
I don't think that you husband's answer was just a matter of tact.
It's become very clear to me, as of late, that many men don't want anything to do with women who don't want anything to do with themselves.
I just asked my husband the same question. He said my playfulness.
I don't use a template, I just kind of go with what feels important about each piece. I've done a few reviews as a pro/con list, but it just kind of goes by my mood when I'm writing.
I think the most important thing to cover with lingerie is size, though (to make this reply at least a little helpful, lol.) How does it compare to the size chart, what sizes do you think it will actually fit, does this brand run large or small, are people with big/small boobs/hips/etc out of luck? If I order size large panties, for instance, how do they compare to a large I'd buy at a regular store? Basically anything that will let someone sitting at home figure out "Oh, cool, the XL fits like a size 12, that should work for me", or "Hmm, only fits a C cup, maybe I should pass."
