Best type of lubricant?

Contributor: PuplePleasures PuplePleasures
I'm looking for a good, cheap, and safe lubricant. Which type is the best and what is the best product?

water based lubricants can be used for mainly any toy. I recommend Pink water and Wet Flavored Lubricants.

I only use water-based because it's safe for all toy materials. My favorite that I've tried is Toyfluid, from Fun Factory. I have a few others sitting my shopping cart waiting for my next order, though.

Water based lubes are very versatile and inexpensive. I like my lubes thick, so I'll put in plugs for Maximus and Ride H2O.

Water-based is my favorite. A lot of them are completely hypoallergenic and natural, they are compatible with anything, and wash off the best. But everyone has different standards. If you want something thick, that won't slide or melt off, and can be used in the shower/pool/hottub, you'll probably need silicone-based.

I prefer water based, because it is safer and is compatible with any materials.

Waterbased is moderatly priced (compared to silicone lube) and it is compatible with everything. If you are sensitive to yeast infections I would avoid the ones with glycerin/parabens.

I like water based because it can be used with ALL of my toys. However, silicone is nice with glass or if you want to use a non-silicone toy in the shower. My favorite water based is the Astroglide glycerin and paraben free formula.

I move back and forth for anal use. Water based is easy to clean up and safe, but oil based sticks around for a long time and coats silicone toys better. I don't use silicone lube as much because I don't like the performance with silicone toys (strange things seem to happen), and cleanup is very hard.

Depends. Usually I use a water-based lube. Sometimes I use olive oil, especially when I'm out of my usually stuff.

Is using olive oil safe?

I love Hathor Aphrodisia water-based lube. It is free of parabens and glycerin -- and it works fantastically (though it's not exactly cheap . . . but at least you only need to use a small drop because it works so well as a slippery lube!).

Fun Factory Toyfluid remains my favorite, but I've gotta say, Maximus is amazingly thick and long lasting!

As with everyone else here, I'd go with water based. It's certainly the most versatile, so if you only want to buy one lube, go with water based. However, if we knew what you were using it for, we might be able to give better advice. Is it for sex, vaginal insertion, anal insertion? Is realistic feel important? Do you need a think lube?

I get scared at the idea of silicone lubricant - all of my vibrators are silicone so I'm afraid that I'll accidentally ruin one!

I second this recommendation.

If you're only going to buy one, it should be water based, but I really like the feel of silicone lubes.

The only thing I don't like about silicone lubes is they can't be absorbed by the body and require soap to remove thoroughly. I have heard stories of having to 'fish' out the lube after sex if a bunch was used. That's why my answer is water-based for lube.

I'm searching for a good oragnic lube. I'm thinking about the Sliquid gel.

I only ever use waterbased lubes now. And recently got onto the Sliquid organic ones and love them. This way I know I'm not doing any harm to my body using them! I'm hooked on them.

Water based for their versatility.

I love water-based lubes. I really like WEt Original Gel lube, as well as a new one I found called Defense Protection Lubricant, which is 100% vegan friendly (however the earthy smell may be a turn-off to some).

I like water based the best because you can use it with anything - toys/condoms/etc. - and not have any worries.

Water based is the way to go! Silicone was good but I like the easy clean up and versatility of the water based .

Oil-based lubes can be harmful to some toy materials, so I'd go with water-based. Never tried silicone-based though.
