Do you use it? What's your favorite?

Why do you choose water-based or silicone-based or even oil-based over another type for sex with your partner?

Constructive discussions on Dick:

Vagina Talk: Does It Make You Say 'I Love You?'
so i've noticed in my years that on more than the rare occasion, my vagina seems to talk for me. i'll be in the middle of a deep dicking down, and...

How often do you give a full blow job?
A better way to ask this would be, how often do you finish your blow job? I know a lot of the time I'll start off sucking my husband's dick, but I'll.

How do you really spice up a girl on girl relationship?
If one is transgendered and doesnt really liked to be touched while the other likes girl but wants dick ever now and then, what do you do to spice...

Sex Addiction

We actually only use lube for anal most of the time. We've been thinking about trying it for vaginal sex as well. We usually just use Durex Play lubricant (the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart), but I've been looking into some anal lube that got really good reviews here on EF. Most of our lubricants are water-based. I don't think we even own a silicone-based lubricant.

Mostly water based, with oil-based as a second (though not vaginally). I have some silicone lube, and it does lubricate very well and very long with just a bit, but cleanup is hard and we have silicone toys. While I've never had it bond to silicone toys permanently, it's very difficult to clean it off.

Our go to lube is still Maximus (it works so well and the convenience of the pump top is hard to beat) but we enjoy Sliquid's Ride H2O as well. We love using silicone lube in the shower.

My favorite is still the old formula of water-based Babelube. I keep a big bottle of it on the nightstand, and we use it just about every time we have sex. I also use it with toys.

A close second would be Swede Aqua Comfort, but it's more expensive so I don't like to use it as often.

It's no secret that plenty of lube is vital for anal play - but many of the more seasoned among us recognize it's increasing importance for vaginal sex as we get older. As it should be, whatever lube we use is dictated specifically by what my wife prefers.

She has never liked water-based lubes - so we started out using almond or safflower based lubes - since she's not sensitive to fragrance - we usually chose a vanilla or citrus option.

On a lark I picked up some silicone lube - she loved it and we've used for some time. However after a while I was a little concerned about potential issues - and decided to look for something more 'natural'.

Our current favorite is a lube based on Cocoa and Shea butters - she loves it because it does double duty as a moisturizer - leaving her skin feeling silky and hydrated. The company is out of England - and they also have water-based lube for those who prefer that option.

I have to say this stuff is priced as a premium product - and ordering it from overseas requires a credit card that allows for that sort of transaction.

You can check out their oil & water-based lubes @ link & link.

I love water-based lubes for masturbation and intercourse; I also use flavored water-based for oral sometimes. We occasionally use silicone-based lubes for anal. I'm not big on oil lubes for sex, but love oils for massage.

I use water-based lube often. Water-based because I don't want to have to worry about any toy I might use in the moment and lube because it makes everything run smoother! Sometimes I'm bored and physically I'm not in a sexy mood, but mentally I want to for entertainment's sake (if that makes any sense without TMI!), so lube also helps for the "readiness" aspect.

OK, I was getting ready to place an order and my hubby and I need to get some good lube.

So, maybe this is a stupid question but can someone please tell me of water, silicone or oil base lube which would be best for all general use. I know you can't use silicone on silicone. What about oil? And what's really long lasting. I hate when it doesn't last and you have to add more, or is that just normal. Maybe I'm not normal, not! Maybe crazy though. te he he

Anyway, I sure someone can help!

Thanks, It's its a stupid ?, sorry about that.

I adored Liquid Silk, but I can't tolerate the parabens, so it's become my SO's jack-off and toy lube. When I'm playing alone, I usually use either Sliquid H2O or Sassy, depending on the material. For vaginal sex, we love either Sassy or sliquid's new Ride H2O. We've got a bottle of Ride silicone that we're going to try for vaginal sex and for anal play, but haven't had a chance to break it open yet.

Water is sort of the most general purpose - it is safe with all toys and safe for condoms, vaginal and anal sex and usually isn't a problem for oral, although some don't taste all that good.
Silicone based can react with silicone toys, but otherwise it is good for everything else, lasts a long time, but is more difficult to wash off than water based. Some prefer not to use it for oral though.
Oil based is generally misunderstood. Many people consider it not good for vaginal sex and not for condoms, but I think that really is considered petroleum oil based because like Gunsmoke said, natural oils (almond, safflower, cocoa butter, shea butter) should not cause issues.
Generally things to watch out for are sugar and to a lesser extent glycerin as they both can cause yeast infections. Artificial sweeteners are generally used in flavored lubes, but they don't necessarily have the same impact as sugar and glycerin for yeast infections as the bacteria can't use it for food. Some people have paraben allergies, so that might be something to avoid depending on the situation.
Not a stupid question, but I'm sure I didn't cover everything.

For our limited anal play - it's always silicone. For everything else we use the Yes oil-based. I kind of hate that designation because oil-based seems to imply some filthy oil-derrick derived synthetic concoction. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The oil-based lube we use is body friendly, long lasting and works great with silicone toys - we never have to reapply. Here's a blurb from the site link:
- Formulated for maximum lubricity and long lasting glide
- Imparts lavish and lasting lubrication
- Rich satin texture
- Marathon inspiring
- Hypoallergenic
- Ideal for water play
- Created with the finest quality organic plant oils, butters and a touch of bees wax
- Beneficial for skin, so no need to wash off
- Non-staining
- Chemical and preservative free
- Not recommended for use with latex condoms.
- Changing your world from the inside (environmental pitch)

Wow, Jimbo Jones and Gunsmoke,

What good men you are!!

Thanks very much for the info. Very very helpful. I always feel like i'm just winging it on the types of lube. I'll be putting in an order later this week and this will help.

Again, thanks

I'm printing this out so I can keep.

I use water based lubes primarily simply because I am hooked on silicone toys and don't want to destroy any of them. We do use silicone lube for playing in the water, anal and times that we don't intend to use a silicone toy simply because we LOVE it's staying power.

I may have to give that stuff a shot at some point. At over $5 per ounce it's pretty pricey though. Sounds like it's definitely worth to you, Gunsmoke.

I use Maximus almost exclusively for everything though I do have some Liquid Silk around. I gave up on silicone lube as most of my toys are silicone and silicone based lubes are just so damn hard to wash off. I love the pump bottle on Maximus and we somehow are used to it for oral sex. In the heat of the moment, I don't notice a taste anyway, and my b/f doesn't complain either.

I agree it's expensive - but for my wife, I will generally not resist what ever she likes. The good news is that even though I tend to use too much - when using glass or silicone toys - I little can go along way.

As you can imagine since this stuff is made with 'buttery' compounds - it becomes thinner and slipperier as it warms up to body temp. In the summer it runs fairly quickly - in the winter it takes a bit of time to warm up.

Just noticed that it's time for me to reorder - and it looks like the price on the 125 ml bottle has actually been reduced from $34/bottle to $24 per bottle. I buy two 125 ml bottles at a time and my last purchase was in June - so I'm getting about 3-4 months use per bottle.

My husband and I use lube....especially when using toys. We use coconut oil -because it's safe, organic, and tastes great. You can also include a massage in your encounter (using the coconut oil) to spice things up. We also have used astroglide. Both work great!

After some testing, I'd have to say that Ride H2O and Silicone have become our 2 go-to lubes for vaginal sex, depending on what else we're using and where we are.

I've been thinking about trying either coconut oil or Yes lube at some point out of curiosity, but for now we've got lubes that work well for us and keep everything slippery and happy.

We almost never use lube for foreplay or intercourse. Only if for whatever reason I'm extremely dry, which is rarely. But we do for anal play of any kind, and I use a little with toys.

Depending on what I'm using it for, or which one is the closest to grab, I like KamaSutra's Love Liquid, Pink Water, Pjur Eros, and now the Booty Parlor Add Magic. For anal we like Maximus or CalEx's Anal Lube.

Gunsmoke, "yes" oil based lube, to which you linked, is coconut oil based. I love it too. Best oil based lube ever.

Have a question for you guys.

I recently bought some oil lube after hearing all the good things about oil. 'Good Clean Love' link. It's all natural here's the ingredients:

Apricot Kernal Oil,
Organic Jojoba Oil,
Vitamin E Antioxidant Formula,
Exotic Blend of Essential Oils.

So, looks pretty good, right? When I used this with my silicone toys they didn't seem to glide and slide as easily as I thought they would. I noticed this after I received my first silicone dildos and used the oil with them and I thought it was the silicone that I didn't like. Come to find out when I used water based lube the silicone was great. It wasn't the silicone after all, it was the oil.

Why would the oil have this effect on the silicone?

Crystal Girl - I'm not at all surprised by your dilemma. There are trade-offs for each lube you choose.

My wife is one of those that who prefers the oil-based lubes. In the past we've used oils like the one you link to - but the one we use now (YES) could be called 'butter-based' because it's mostly Shea & Cocoa butters. These butters start out like a thin paste that melts at body temperature. Both the oil & butter formulations will soak into your skin over time - leaving you silky smooth.

This contrasts with water-based lubes that are designed for maximum slipperiness. The newest formulations aim to be 'silicone like'. We don't use them because they tend get loose their initial slickness and get sticky.

We've never had any trouble with our silicone toys using YES (butter-based) - but I have no doubt that it's not as slippery as the water-based options.

This translates into a little less slipperiness with the payback of body friendly - even skin enhancing effects once your done.

Just use what works best for you!

Gunsmoke,

Less slipperiness is would be OK but with the GCL oil it was like it was gone and then I want to keep using more and more. I bought the GCL oil thinking since it was all natural it would be better, more body friendly. Oh well.

Of course, it's not a prob with my husband, only with the silicone and TPR toys.

I just went over to the YES site and ordered the introductory pack, which has the oil and water based in it. I'll let you know how they work out.

Thanks for your response!!
