Lubricated Condoms on Silicone Dildos

Contributor: Chal Chal
Hi there,

I know that it's a good idea to use a condom on a dildo if you want to use the dildo for both anal and vaginal play in the same session (without having to stop to boil it, etc.) What I'm wondering is, how safe is it to use pre-lubricated condoms on a silicone dildo? I've examined the wrappers on the condoms (I have a collection from the school's safe sex supply shop, so I don't have the original boxes) and they don't seem to list the ingredients of the lubricant. How can I be sure that I'm not accidentally putting a silicone-based lubricant on the dildo? Would the ingredients be on the boxes?

I'm not much of a condom user, but I would think the box would have to list the ingredients. Otherwise, you can try and test it since silicone lubes won't simply wash away with water like a water based lube will. If you have any doubt, I wouldn't risk a silicone toy. I'd either contact the manufacturer to be sure or else get some non-lubricated condoms for toy play.

Most lubricated condoms use silicone lube so personally I would stay away from them when using silicone toys, especially the less expensive toys as they are often a mix of something and silicone rather than the pure material.

Personally I would go with using a non lubricated condom and adding my own waterbased lube this way you know what your getting.

Hope that helps,
Jenne

I agree with this, stick to unlubed ones and supply your own lube, just to be safe.

Yeah, I've always seen cautions to use unlubricated condoms on silicone toys.

You could always check the website of the company that makes them. I am sure there would be a blurb there.

I have wondered this same thing when it comes to my Cyberskin, UR3 etc... dildos.
I just haven't bothered to use condoms.
But it still had me wondering if I choose to in the future.

My dildo is from Tantus so it's definitely pure silicone, and I used a lubed condom on it the other day to no ill effect, but I think I'll play it safe in the future, especially as I don't have the original boxes.

I would not use a lubricated condom on a silicone toy, ever. They do make toy covers, but I find it easier just to switch toys.
