Silicone? I don't get it.

Why do so many people swear by silicone lube? I've tried Wet Platinum and all it did was stain my comforter. Not to mention it's a total pain in the ass to clean off because it's not water soluble.

Silicone lube is nice because it lasts a lot longer and doesn't need reapplication. I personally use water based because I produce a lot of natural lubrication and enjoy the ease of clean up, but if one has lubrication troubles it's much more convenient!

Because it stays slick for so long. Water-based lubes tend to get sticky as they are exposed to air. Silicone just goes and goes.

Just like anything else, it has its pros and cons. As you pointed out, it can stain, and can be more difficult to clean up. Another downside is that it cannot be used with toys made out of silicone. But as the others mentioned, it is superior in slickness and how long it lasts. If you do try water-based and find that they don't last as long or don't lubricate as well, you should really look into hybrid lubes. I've personally used Wet Synergy Cool Tingling (also available in warming and plain) and loved it. You still need to be careful with silicone toys, but it's a blend of water and silicone. So it will be more slick and last longer than plain water, but will clean up easier than plain silicone.

My love is with waterbased - not silicone. I don't really like having silicone in my orifices!

If you're sensitive to ingredients, silicone lubes will likely do better for you - no rashes or infections or the like. My understanding is that the body simply doesn't respond to silicone. Silicone implants are different, because in that case the silicone molecules can get in the bloodstream, but silicone on the skin will simply settle on the surface, and in the vagina or anus will be expelled naturally.

Also for those who enjoy sex play in the water, silicone lube works much better. Water based lube just gets washed away in the water, but silicone lube stays in place.

Personally, my favorite lube is water based. I prefer it because it is more versatile and doesn't stain.
