Why silicone-based lubricant over water-based lubricant?

Contributor: Nazaress Nazaress
I've never use a silicone-based lubricant. Frankly, I've barely used water-based (but that will change as soon as my next order is shipped). As such, I don't know much about silicone-based lubricant except that it works for shower sex, whereas water-based lubricant doesn't, and that it's not safe for silicone (and other) toys. So beyond the shower sex part, why do people (you, specifically?) choose silicone-based lubricants over water-based lubricants? Is it thicker? Does it last longer? Is it less runny?

It lasts much longer than water-based lube and, because of that, it is much safer for anal or extremely "fast" sex. The thickness of any lube is dependent upon the manufacturer and the particular mix and quantity of additives used.

Thank you for answering my question! I think I may have to get some silicone lubricant with my next order, then, because my boyfriend and I sometimes partake in "fast" sex and I'm always sore afterwards. I'm sure the silicone lube would help with that. I'll just have to remember that it is NOT for all my toys and use the water-based lube that I'm getting in the mail now.
