I never chill my stainless steel toys, especially in winter, when steel feels cold to the touch in their normal state; sticking an ice cold apparatus into my body isn't very fun -- but that's my personal preference.

I don't have any steel toys, but I once made the mistake of not warming a glass piece. And it was only at room temp. But room temp was lower than my body temp and YIKES did that sucker feel to cold.

We tried a couple of times and WOW, talk about cold. But still it can be fun depending on situation.
