Do you flame test silicone toys?

Contributor: mandiegk mandiegk
I never would have even thought to do this.

The only silicone toys I have at the moment are from Tantus, so I've never felt the need to.

Unless I was planning on sharing a toy and wanted to be positive I can sterilize it, there would be no point for me to risk harming one of my silicone toys.

I have never heard of, nor done, a flame test on my toys. I see no need to; I only buy silicone toys from reliable companies(tantus, vixin, rocks off,...) from reliable sellers, edenfantasys being one.

I guess I don't care that much. I don't share my toys and I don't see any other reason to verify the material.

I had never really heard of this concept before, but I think I just might! Yikes... or I may read excessive reviews on toys before I buy them.

For those that don't know that flame test is when you put a match or some other flame under the toy. Pure silicone shouldn't melt ... more
I never have but now I might..

I've actually considered starting this...especially since one the manufacturer for a toy I reviewed semi-recently, bold-face lied. They claimed that it was medical grade/food-safe silicone. It wa a TPR silicone combo. Talk about BS.

UM...I'm supposed to get an expensive toy and destroy it with fire?

Do I put my glass one's in a nuclear fuel pile to see if they melt and release impurities in the glass matrix?

The metal ones, I guess, could be shot into space...allowed to reenter and we could use telescopes to do flame interferometry and ascertain the real metal component mixture....but really?

I do not, however I might just try it out.

Nope. I've never done it, but now I'm curious about it.

I never heard of this, but I'd be afraid of some sort of freak accident where the vibrator caught on fire, I jumped in surprise and dropped it, the vibe hit the ground and turned on, and then started leaping all over my house setting everything on fire.

I actually never knew that about silicone. What a cool fact.

It has also never crossed my mind, though i guess it makes sense for safety concerns. The thought of putting flame to my beloved Lelo horrifies me!

Never heard of flame testing until right now. I'd be afraid to, silicone toys cost so much! If it melts, then you're stuck with a melted costly toy.

"It's not burning! Witch! Uh, I mean, silicone!"

I have never done the flame test. While I would feel confident testing any of my Tantus toys, I don't feel like they deserve to be burned at the stake like that.

Reading some of the old posts, "Dildo goo soup" sounds hilarious... And maybe like an MP restoring item in some strange video game.

It never even occurred to me to do such a thing. I suppose I should see about testing my toys in the future though.

I've never done it. I buy from reputable companies, so I've never really worried that my toys weren't real silicone.

I would never put any of my toys near a flame to test if they were pure silicone or not. I love them too much. =C

I seriously had no idea that this was even an option. I've never thought of it. I guess I might do it on a toy that I felt questionable about for the sake of a review

I don't, but I've been thinking about it. Some things just don't seem like they're silicone, to me.

never, and wouldn't. Don't personally care if it catches on fire or not, I dont wanna ruin a toy!

I flame-test fabric because you can cut little bits of it off and still use it for what you wanted, or acquire a swatch to test before buying.

I don't think I would with a toy unless I had a strong suspicion that it wasn't pure silicone and was for some reason too bothered to use it until knowing the truth.

The thought never occured to me to test them this way. Interesting.
