Do you flame test silicone toys?

There are a lot of things I'm willing to set on fire, but my sex toys aren't among them!

For those that don't know that flame test is when you put a match or some other flame under the toy. Pure silicone shouldn't melt ... more
I've never done that or heard of it before this!

Don't - Never thought of this before, but it sounds like a decent idea. It doesn't really tell you what other fillers are in it though.

I've actually never even thought about doing this! I have two toys that are pure silicone, but since I have no reason to suspect otherwise, I don't think I'm going to bother.

This is a new one on me, I never even thought to try it. But why would I want to possibly damage a toy I paid big bucks for especially when from a High End Reliable Company? Please excuse if my naivety is showing.

Let's think of it this way... If i bought a silicone cooking spoon, spatula would I flame test it? No I wouldn't. Products from reliable companies are appropriately tested and are usually indicated in one way or another. Ever see the "Inspector 10" tags? This makes responsible companies credible for the products they sell and so reliable that they stay in business for many years.

No, I'm too scared of wrecking my toys. That said I only buy silicone toys from reputable manufacturers anyway.

I never thought about it. But I have noticed that one toy I had that was cheap silicone melted in some places during the summer. And obviously that must've been at a much lower temperature than a match.

Just tried this for the first time on a toy I haven't used yet. It left a charred spot but I'm guessing from other comments that that's fine (if it isn't, someone PLEASE correct me). I don't care if I paid a lot of money for a toy. If it could potentially be unsanitary, I'll risk destroying it.

I have in the past, when I was unsure about the purity.

I never have. The only way I could see myself doing it, is if the toy was damaged by accident or if I hate the toy so much I wanted to see if I could kill it. Like the jelly toy I am going to hack up, this coming weekend.

Huh. I've always read that wood matches burn at around 600 - 900 degrees (C) while butane burns at like 1800 degrees (C). (I used to date a guy who did welding and forging and knife making and all sorts of crazy)

Perhaps the ignition point for each is different but the flame settles down to be the same...

I know about the flame test, but I've never done it. I've thought about it for reviewing purposes, but I'd have to set up a safe environment first.

I never do mine, you're thinking about putting fire...to something that might have chemicals in it. Just think about that. Think about it long and hard before you even try it, or you know, burn your house down, it's your choice.

I'd rather risk having dangerous chemicals touch me instead of risking burning myself and also at the least making a mark on my toy. I've never been sick from jelly touching me or even insertion, lighting myself on fire? Yeah I think that might hurt me worse.

Only if I have reason to suspect it is not pure silicone.

I haven't before, but I recently did a review on a toy that has questionable material. it says silicone, but I'm seriously doubting it. So, I'm definitely doing a flame test tomorrow.
