Have you heard about the dangers of PVC?

Contributor: Katelyn Katelyn
I love PVC for some of my anal plugs, bondage apparatuses, clothing and dongs. Can someone tell me more about the negative aspects of PVC. On the material page it does not seem to dangerous. Thanks!

PVC by itself is not dangerous. You probably drink water from pipes made of PVC. It's the plasticizers added to PVC to make it soft that make it malodorous and bad for you. The plasticizers are most commonly phthalates, which are probably carcinogenic and can cause birth defects and endocrine issues.

A lot of sex toy companies are making phthalate-free PVC toys now, so that's one less concern.

First JELLY (made me throw away many MANY of my old favorites), and NOW someone is saying PVC is dangerous?????I drink all my water from PVC pipes. I eat off a PVC table on my deck....come on, how is this dangerous??????

Thanks for the link, but I fear it is alarmist. The AMOUNT of exposure to those volatile gasses must be pretty high, but the bottom line is that they are toxic....OUCH.

It is interesting. I used to use a lot of jelly but I find silicone just feels better. I still use PVC tape and such but I am not sure what to think about all this. Wood and Glass seems the way to go.

Yep, PVC is gross. All my anal toys are either silicone or steel. No porous materials for me!

If most things are made from it, though, how can we avoid it if it's so dangerous? Especially when it comes to cookware/food storage, water pipping, etc?

This is true. I hate all the jelly scare things but I have seen my jelly toys get a little old and start to degrade so I think I will stick to silicone, wood and metal. All those newish MetalWorx products looks super nice.
