How long do you keep your silicone toys?

Contributor: Pink Lily Pink Lily
I just got my first vibrator a couple of months ago and I'm completely hooked (yay!), but I'm still trying to get a hang of the safety aspect behind toy materials. I know silicone toys are the best toys, but realistically how long do they last? How long can I keep them before I should replace them?

Thanks!!!

So long as they're taken care of and kept clean, silicone toys can outlast their owners. Unless the material shows obvious signs on deteriorating, which shouldn't happen under normal conditions, there's no reason to get rid of them.

Thanks! I was just wondering because I was wandering around Wikipedia and another use for silicone is in Menstrual cups, and it said they should be replaced every 5-10 years. I use my toys WAY more than I would use cups and I wasn't sure if the "wear and tear" would affect the lifetime of the material.

I figured Menstrual cups would be the closest thing to sex toys in the medical-grade silicone department.

As long they look fine... Actually, I've never even thrown a silicone toy away.

So far I have not gotten rid of any of my silicone toys, but soon I am going to thin them out. Not because they are worn out, just that I need to make room for my favorites. I have several rechargable toys and someday they wont hold a charge anymore. when that happens then I will toss them, but that is about the internal parts, not the silicone.

I haven't had any problems with any of them and I would say that they will last forever as long as they are taken care of.

Forever. As long as you take care of them they will be around for a long time. A very clean and durable material for a toy.

replace them when the motor wears out unless the silicone is deteriorating.

There's two reasons for that. One is that cups are a personal hygiene product, which will generally come with a recommended lifespan. The other is that it helps to generate repeat sales.

You can basically keep using the same cup as long as you want if you remember to care for it properly (even the instructions for my Diva Cup stated that while replacing it every year is recommended, it's ultimately up to the user). Same for silicone toys.

As long as you take proper care of them, they should last a lifetime. Mine are still in the same shape I got them.

I have yet to have to replace a silicone toy. If its a dildo I am sure it will outlast me if it is a vibrator then it will get replaced the day it stops vibrating

I think that as long as the toy is kept clean and has no signs of ware or damage that you shouldn't have to throw them away.

As long as they last - I expect that eventually they'll need to be replaced, no idea how long.

Other than too many, I've yet to get rid of a silicon toy, especially one I like

I would assume a very long time as long as you take care of them properly.

I have had all of my silicone toys since the day I purchased them and they are all still in showroom condition!

Nothing lasts forever, but so far all my silicone toys are 100% intact. I've had some of them for 5 years now.

I plan on keeping them forever or for as long as they are in good condition.

I'm pretty sure it was well over ten years ago that I'd bought a Vixen Creations "Randy" for my spouse. I ran across it not long ago and it's in like new condition. Of course it hasn't been used in quite a while, she passed several years ago now.

With proper care, for a very long time!

While "forever" might be wishful thinking, I'm thinking that "a long time" is very reasonable for high quality silicone toys. My oldest I got in 2006 and it's showing no signs of real wear.

Till they show the end of their usability.

Since it can be sterilized, silicone will never become dangerous to use the way jelly does -- it's bacterial buildup that's responsible for the need to throw away jelly toys after a few months.

I've only had to toss because of physical damage, though not being careful with silicone lube or meltable toys can also cause problems.

With proper care and feeding silicone toys are basically "for life".

Thus why I aim for silicone toys always.
