Silicone for manufacturing sex toys

Contributor: vanillalatex vanillalatex
Hey everyone.

I am trying to get into manufacturing silicone sex toys. I have a number of super-cool clay models sitting in limbo because I haven't been able to track down a suitable silicone for them. Is there anyone out there that has some knowledge of this? I want to use the safest material that is feasible, but there are such a variety of silicones out there that I am a bit overwhelmed by the options. There's basic silicone, platinum, USP Class VI, implant under 30 days, over 30 days, etc etc. Which is best for toys? Obviously some of these are prohibitively expensive; there must be a happy medium where sex toy safety is excellent and the cost is manageable. Any idea where to get the silicone???

I'm also concerned about the pigments. Which are okay to use without compromising the safety of the toy? Are molds also made from silicone, or is it acceptable to use another material, such as alginate or something similar?

Lots of questions, I know. I just don't want to put anything out there that is not safe. I've already tried contacting other manufacturers, silicone companies, etc, but haven't had much luck. Anyone have any advice?

I've been considering purchasing a penis pump, not for their enlarging effects, but because some pumps are described as excellent masturbation aides....

I think this is an insanely cool idea and I'd love to learn more about it myself.

From far too much time spent puttering around on the internet, I do know that some sex toys are made from the same plastics that go into dental work. They're not silicone, but things like crystalessence are also non-porous. Also, if you google stuff on silicone moldings and silicone supply, you can come up with a list of chemical companies that sell silicone.

I bet you knew all that already. It also doesn't help with what kind of silicone you're trying to choose from. Good luck with finding more information!

That makes sense that dental plastics might be used; I didn't know about that. I might look into it.

I found quite a few silicone mold suppliers for FX and prosthetics, but there seems to be a big jump from general platinum silicone to USP Class VI and medical grade. That's where I'm stuck; finding someone to supply in that category on the small, non-factory scale.

Thanks for your input, I think it's a cool idea too and I hope I can get past this speed bump!
