Wanting to know about glass vibes and dildos!

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
So, until I started reading some reviews on this site I stayed away from glass vibrators and dildos for the simple reason of not really being educated on the material, and the thought of using glass inside of me did scare me a bit! I don't know why, but I always just thought that they were made of thin glass and imagined it breaking inside of me or something!

Well, after seeing the reviews for glass toys on this site, and how much people seem to enjoy them, I thought, what the heck, why not get a little more info on them and maybe try some out?

So I guess my question is, for those of you who know a lot about glass toys, what would you recommend MOST for beginners, more along the lines of vibrators to start with, keeping in mind I do want QUALITY but would also be working on a budget.

I use vibes more than dildos so I'm looking for something more along the lines of a nice vibe. I hear texture of glass is quite different from most other materials and feels great on the skin, which is why I became very interested, and from what I've read, it's thicker glass, that unless you drop it of course, it isn't going to just break off like I'd thought in my initial concerns!!!

Any suggestions are appreciated

We have many glass toys and love them for both vaginal and anal use - but none are vibes. To me glass and vibrating just don't go together - I'd be worried about developing micro-fractures. As far as what to look for - my wife says smaller ones should have texture and larger ones can be smoother. They always feel bigger than they are because there is no 'give' like a silicone toy.

I always recommend that you find a couple of reviewers that seem to share your preferences and see what they like.

BTW - don't overlook metal. We have both Stainless Steel Njoy toys and the Tantus Alumina line - love them as much as glass.

There are a couple of glass vibrators in the Icicles line by Pipedream, but according to the reviews they don't work too well.

Almost all glass doesn't vibrate, and for a good reason: it'd be ridiculously loud. Have you ever dropped a plastic vibrator on a table or nightstand while it was on? It sounds like that, but worse.

A big favorite beginner glass toy around here is the Bent Graduate or Amethyst. I personally would suggest a dual-ended, dual-texturized dildo such as the Pink Allure or Royal Duet.

That makes a lot of sense, about the glass toys feeling bigger, so I'll also have to be careful about choosing toys that meet what I am looking for. I think that's a great suggestion to look into the metal toys. I've typically owned silicone or plastic toys in the past, these two materials are actually something I've been seeing a lot of on this site, and been interested in trying. I'll certainly look those toys up by Njoy and Tantus Alumina, and check the reviews to see if they seem to be something that would work for me!

Thanks so much for your advice and that's great to know about the textures!

Hmmm perhaps my initial second-guessing of these products was wise!!! Although, I will definitely look into your suggestions for the beginner glass toys as well

Yeah, I don't like the vibrating ones much, either.
In general, I recommend for new glass users to try a dildo that has at least two different kinds of textures (like a double ended): smooth, bumpy, twisted, wrapped, etc. There are some acceptably priced ones on here that match that description.

I have a vibrating glass toy (the Reflections Beauty), and it isn't loud at all. It also doesn't have the strongest vibrations though and I wasn't a big fan of the texture on it. I agree with Annemarie that the Amethyst is a great beginner glass toy. Actually, I think it's great for almost anyone.

I have the Icicles 16 - the vibrating rabbit and I really enjoy it.
And I just got the Colourful Spiral G-spot Wonder which is very pretty, but it doesn't vibrate. The flower in the end of mine is far prettier and different than the product page shows.

PS - my Icicles 16 is extremely quiet! I have normal vibes that are far louder. So not all vibrating glass toys are noisy like people make out. I have often found that people who say this havent even tried a vibrating glass toy.

I haven't used any of them (just popped batteries in 'em,) but I definitely don't reccomend the glass vibrators. Some of them have a LOT of texture, especially for their size. And the thick glass really does not carry vibrations well at all. We just got a new one in at the shop that's not only huge, but the glass has a very coarse texture, almost like fine-grit sandpaper. And the vibrations barely carry to the tip.

If you want hands-free clit stim with a glass toy, get a vibrating cock ring and stick it on the toy. Don't try the We Vibe with a glass toy...my boss did, and she said it's awkward beyond words.

Edit: I should mention...the ones we sell are the Doc Johnson line...

I'm wondering about how to maintain a cold or warm temperature with the glass toys? I don't have one yet, but am interested in getting one. For the colder temperature, do you just... put it in your fridge? Lol.. I know it seems like a silly question but I'm serious. :S

You can put it in the fridge or in a glass of ice water. For warm temperatures, usually a warm water bath.

Oooh, I'm glad you posted that. I did the vibrating cock ring on the dildo once, and it was awesome. But I hadn't thought of doing that in a while. I'll have to add that back into my playtime repertoire.

I prefer glass for several reasons. Including: function, style, longevity and ability to properly clean.
