What is the safest, preferred dildo material out there?

Contributor: Intrigued Intrigued
I'm new to the Eden community, and I'm so happy I joined. I'm learning so much about toys, their care, and love the open discussions. I've been reading the forums about the materials that the dildos are made of. I'm getting a little confused I think. What is the safest material out there that is comfortable and easy to clean? Please help!!

All 'inert' materials including; glass, ceramic, stone, aluminum & steel are safe when 'used as directed'. My wife loves the glass (many), steel (Pure Wand) and aluminum (Alumina Flow) toys we have - clean up is also a snap and temperature play is also very nice - a cool toy on hot skin can have interesting results

Silicone is generally considered the safest 'softer' material out there. Some are softer than others. For example one of our fav's the Fun Factory Tiger - is quite firm - but the texture and size make it perfect for g-spot stimulation. The O2 Revolution on the other hand is a dual density toy with a firm inner structure but a very comfortable soft silicone outer layer which is more 'life like'. My wife loves these as well.

You get the idea that variety is very important - at least my wife loves different sensations - depending on her mood. Imagine that!?

Like many we started out with jelly toys - because they are cheaper. Both my wife and I developed a sensitivity to that material (it causes a severe burning sensation) so we've thrown them all out but 1 - which we must use a condom on.

Many dual stimulators are made with TPR - we have had no issues using TPR. Her fav ones are the Decadent Indulgence and Ultimate Decadent Indulgence. The original DI is much stronger (4 AAs) the newer UDI has just 3 AAs, is weaker - but waterproof. Again it's about the mood!

Happy hunting!

Could you clarify what you mean by comfortable?

Also I really like glass and metal toys. But really glass is my favorite.

Metal, glass, and wood are all safe and easy to clean, although comfort is a bit relative with them. For softer, safe toys, I love silicone ones.

for soft material: silicone or TPR are good for me
for smooth and firm: GLASS! I love glass toys...they're the best I've used.

for lubes though, check out Maximus. It's pretty much the best water lube out there that i've seen/used. The pump handle on it is nice too!

I agree. I LOVE glass too. You can't beat a good glass toy. Glass seems to work the best with all lubes and creates a unique sensation when using.

I guess my definition of comfortable with have to do with long term use (more than a couple of minutes) and with lubricants. I find that with the jelly toys that I have that it chages after awhile and the lube just wears off.

Thank you for your detailed reply. The more I read about some of the materials, the more research I want to do. I hear that some people have reactions that are quite scary.

I will have to try the O2....It sounds very intriguing.

I can't agree more about glass toys. Super easy to clean and are simply AMAZING.

Thanks for the input. I think we're going to look at the silicone toys. I love the glass toys. Super easy to clean and as I've said...provide that "OOOOOOOOO" feeling.

I was concerned because I've read some of the forum reviews on different materials and some of them were a little scary. I thought getting some real feedback might help to shed some light on what others have experienced and prefer.

Looks like you're all covered with the detailed answers from our caring community. But there is always space to grow - so here is a fun content we have about material safety. You should try and explore different materials and understand that, even if some materials are not scoring As on the safety list, it doesn't mean they should be avoided. You can use them safely, like Gunsmoke said, with a condom over it, still benefiting from the features and the texture, given that the condom is thin enough.

Hope this helps
