Why don't you like plastic?

Contributor: Beck Beck
I have just commented on a post that someone made about how they wanted to buy a product, but since it was plastic they were rethinking. I know plastic doesn't have a high safety rating like glass or silicone, but what is the reasoning behind not liking plastic? I find plastic to be a nice and simple material that glides nicely on my skin with or without lube. I am just curious as to why some people don't like plastic?

I totally agree, I have no problem with plastic either. It's body safe, compatible with all lubes, and can be sanitized. While it doesn't feel as luxurious as glass or silicone, I still like it too!

I don't have a problem with plastic as a material. However, most plastic toys are lower quality and tend to have seams on insertables. Plastic seams are a huge no-no for me.

Generally I wouldn't buy a plastic toy because they're quite rigid, and I prefer flexible items, but for some smaller items plastic is perfectly fine.

I generally prefer silicone or metal toys to plastic if I have a choice, but unlike rubber and some of the other more porous compounds I generally feel plastic is fairly safe and am comfortable buying it.

I don't mind hard plastic at all for toys that are primarily for external stimulation.

I'd pass on a plastic dildo, though.

I like plastic just fine, especially when I need pin-point stimulation.

And if anyone should hate plastic, it's me. I'm allergic to plastic. But no worries! Vibrators have never caused a reaction with me. It's only certain plastics. The keyboard I'm using? Fine. Safety goggles? Rash down half of my face. Mechanical pencils? Okay. Ear buds? Fiery burning Hell in my ears oh God so much pain.

I've heard that plastic sometimes retains odors. I've never personally had an issue. I don't like plastic insertables but I like my Lelo Mia as a clit vibe and she's plastic.

I like plastic just fine. It's a mediocre material for insertion, but for external stimulation it works out nicely and transfers vibration very well.

I don't necessarily dislike plastic. I have never had a bad reaction with some of the toys I had. But I do try to avoid them because who knows down the line it may be different and I hate to get a allergic reaction to anything for that matter.

I didn't like plastic in the beginning unless it had the velvety coating but the Tango and Salsa totally changed my mind. Now, I don't mind and have bought a regular vibrator that was plastic.

Never had a problem with plastic, in fact a few of my favorite toys are plastic (Aneros, Nexus). It is one of the few materials that can be modified or fixed when scratched with minimal effort. It may not always be my first choice but there are only so many stainless toys out there.

I would guess that a lot of folks just assume they are of cheap quality, like those you might find at Spencers for under ten bucks. Sad part is some of them are great toys.

Plastic is okay by me. Tango is plastic and remains one of my favorites!

Plastic is actually one of my favorite materials. I like really firm toys and plastic tends to be a more affordable option than say steel or glass, it also doesn't get so cold like the other hard materials do.

I was very curious to find out if there was something I did not know about plastic, but there wasn't. I really don't see much of a reason not to like plastic aside from seems, which no one wants! Thanks for all your answers.

This. Also, I like my rigid toys to be sleek, I guess.

I like the plastic toys I own. They are, in many ways, more convenient than silicone. They do not collect lint, are more smooth, and can be used with any type of lube. Unless I plan on sharing something, I think I'd prefer a plastic clitoral toy.

I like plastic for a lot of things. Our favorite anal probe is 100% ABS plastic and we love it!

I think sometimes people get into the "silicone, steel, glass or it's crap" idea, because a lot of us tend to diss (nasty) stuff like Sil-A-Gel or rubber.

I agree that plastic is a perfectly good material to make toys out of. It holds up. It's firm when you want something firm. It's fairly nonporous. And, it's inexpensive.

I have to add.... there is NEVER a reason to set plastic toys on fire!

Thank you for the thread, Beck.

My wife doesn't like plastic much because most of her plastic toys in the past have felt a bit on the cheap side or haven't lived up to their "potential" as she said. *Shrugs* Maybe its just that the cheaper plastic toys give the more expensive, more well made plastic ones a bad name? I dunno.

I like plastic toys but only the ones with the velvety coating on them. I like silicone but in my experience it's like a lint and pet hair magnet. I've never used a glass toy before but I want to get one someday, just not sure which to start with!

I definitely avoid plastic toys with any shiny/sparkly coatings because it chips off. I also dislike seams so I'm really picky. I definitely avoid jelly unless it's something I've just got to try for some reason.

I don't see a thing wrong with plastic o.o. My Janine Vibrator is plastic and so far it's my favorite toy.

I personally like plastic. That said, some might not like how firm it is.

Plastic just doesn't feel as luxurious as something like silicone, glass, or steel. But I think it's perfectly fine, especially for G-spotting where you want toys that are firm.
