seriously watch out for splinters, the big brands that use some really good finnishes like nobessence are great, smaller cheaper manufacturers can be a little less good (companies that usually work for themselves), wood is warmer than other materials and lovely and firm to.

I've seen some finely crafted beautiful wooden toys made by a local artist. Truly works of art.

It's firm and lightweight, and so long as you buy from reputable companies, splinters are not an issue.
