Honestly, I'd never really thought about it. I don't really care either way. If the material's transparent, then I can see the insides (the guts, as you call them). If the material isn't transparent, that's fine too.

I don't particularly care for the clear/cut away toys either. I like clear glass just fine but prefer a nice coat of paint for mechanized toys.
