QR Coded Condoms - would you scan them?

Contributor: Petite Valentine Petite Valentine
From Geekologie:

"Planned Parenthood in western Washington state have been handing out condoms with special QR codes on the wrapper. Users are encouraged to scan the code with their smartphone prior to/after having sex (AND WASHING YOUR HANDS), and the general location of your safe sex will be uploaded to wheredidyouwearit.com, which keeps a running map of where all the condoms have been used."

More information here.

Would you use your smartphone to scan QR codes on a condom?

I don't use condoms. Ah, monogamy!

Even if I did, I think that's just kind of silly. I mean, it might make the GOP shut up or they'd try to shut it down, never can tell these days. Anyway, QR codes are already outdated. There's new technology in place, they just have to get everyone else on board.

It's an interesting concept, but personally I wouldn't be out scanning anything even if I was using them.

What's the point? Why does it matter where it's used? That's just weird.

Interesting, but not really something I'd be into doing personally.

Wow. Orwell's 1984 is here.

I don't often use condoms, but I sure as hell wouldn't scan them so just anyone would know where I used one.

WHY would anyone do this?

It's actually a pretty clever campaign if you gloss over the fact that people are kind of private about this stuff. If you see that people are using them, it might inspire you to protect yourself. Or start looking for areas that have a high "check-in" rate if you're down on your luck.

Even though we do not use them if I ever saw him do it I would be a little weird-ed out. I mean, why dou you want to know where people are using their condoms?

It might provide interesting statistics on where Planned Parentoods are most useful or most utilized, but only if everyone did it.

Interesting concept but not one I'd likely participate in.

I really don't get the QR codes in the first place. At least with my Smart phone it's faster to go to google and type in what I am looking for. I can't get my smartphone to see those QR Codes until 10 minutes later. Maybe other phones are better.

Nope, they are allllll like that. And they put them in tv programs now. How stupid is that? And if you can't figure out how to give me the information on the package why in the hell should I be expected to go to your website and dig through your advertising stuff to get what I need? I can just see people giving me the stink eye as I'm buried in my phone while researching a product.

I can see the need for things like pesticides and other stuff like that but not for your every day ordinary purchases. I've seen QR codes on pizza boxes ffs!!

Can you just see a bunch of 18 year old guys refreshing their screens every five seconds? Trying to google map locations? Hahahaha

I never did like the idea of everyone knowing where I am, so no, I would not use it. Now if it was something showing how it was used, I could see that.

Actually, I took a look and the site is cute. You can choose from a few drop-down menu options and even rate the sex! The website puts the check-in at a randomly generated location NEAR you, so it's completely anonymous.

I have a feeling most people here just posted without even looking at the website.

I'd do it.

Honestly, I don't really get them either.

The location feature is unnecessary and could come with some privacy issues. But scanning the QR could be a neat feature if it provided more info on STD's, safe sex/using condoms safely, PP clinic addresses etc.
