SmartBalls with NuvaRing?

Contributor: Blinker Blinker
I just ordered a pair of original Fun Factory Smart Balls and it just occurred to me that I'm going to stick balls in my vagina, and there is also a birth control ring in my vagina. Are they gonna duke it out in there? Will I run the risk of yanking my NuvaRing out everytime I take the balls out?

I really should have covered all my bases before I purchased the damn things!

Hmmm...I used to wear a Nuva Ring. I had one for about 4 months. I know that you can remove the Nuva ring for short periods of time without any problems. So, I would try it with it in, if there is discomfort I would just remove it and reinsert it after you are done. I wouldn't do this for more than an hour though and especially not right before having sex.

This is an excellent question!

That's actually a really good question. Best bet for the most informed answer is to call your doctor and ask. I wish I had a better answer for you than that, lol

I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and find out! I know that the NuvaRing can be left out for UP TO 3 hours, and if need be I'll schedule SmartBall time to be shorter than that. Or maybe they can both hang in there peacefully without fighting.

Thanks for your input, gals!

Right that's what I remember. 3 hours. Or perhaps time it for when you take the nuva ring out at the end of the month. My period never started the first day, but your body might be different.

Talked to my doctor today and she said there really shouldn't be a problem. I showed her a picture of the Smart Balls and she seemed interested in them LOL. She said the worst that could happen is that the ring could come out, but then again that's happened before, so it's no big deal. I really think she may look into the Smart Balls to purchase; she asked for the website and everything

Blinker, I could be wrong, but my guess would be there would be no problem. You put a penis and/or sex toys in your vagina, right? They don't dislodge the NuvaRing. The Smart Balls go in more shallow than a good size sex toy or a penis, so I don't think there is a problem.

I think it's cool that your doctor was interested. My old OBGYN might have been, but the guy I have now thinks I'm a nympho the way it is. (Not that he says it's a bad thing, he's just young and thinks it's "interesting" that I am as sexual as I am. He has a lot to learn!) I'm glad you were able to talk to your doctor about it.

I would advise (as a nurse, not your personal doc) that you DON'T take the Nuva out. Consistent Birth control is so important, you don't want to take a chance of forgetting to put it in or it drying up while it is not in place.

Do you know what the Nuva Ring is made of? I know it will dry up if not in place around the cervix or in the foil. I think it is an hydrous polymer (meaning a plastic like material that is high water content) but I am not sure. I can look into it, if you like.

I'm not sure what it's made of, honestly. And I got my Smart Balls today actually and put them in with my NuvaRing. I think I'm inserting them wrong because they won't stay in. I can't get the second ball to stay in comfortably. But when I took the balls out completely, the Ring came out with them. I rinsed it off and put it back in. I've given up on the Smart Balls for now, but I really wish they would work!

As a nurse, do you have any suggestions? Maybe I'm not placing them correctly? I'm just kind of poking them in myself, much like I do with my Nuva Ring. My vagina doesn't like them; it spits them out

I usually insert the balls while lying down. I lube them, and take a hold the the first ball (the one without the removal handle on it) and PUSH it into the vagina, then I only insert the second ball (with the removal loop) in about part way. Your vaginal muscles should hold on to the area between the balls, or maybe you need to strengthen your vaginal muscles a little more.

Try using them for about 5 minutes at a time, while lying down. Do Kegals and gently push on the outer ball, which should be holding your inner labia slightly open. The inner ball and behind the connector should rest just about where you would place a tampon so it's comfortable and doesn't fall out. It may take a few tries and maybe some toning to get the balls to stay in my themselves, but the work you do to learn to keep them in will not only help tone your vagina for stronger orgasms, but will help your grip your partner's penis or fingers when you are making love.

There is a learning curve for some people, but you're doing your body good while learning. Just put that Nuva right back IN when it comes out!

Kegals are done by tightening and relaxing the muscles in the vagina and other pelvic areas, (your urethra, and rectal muscles get involved, too) You can find them by starting and stopping the flow of urine when you pee, (I don't recommend using the balls while you are peeing, if they fall out and into the toilet, yuck) A couple of times a day, when you pee, try stopping the flow a few times. This will get you used to feeling where the muscles for Kegaling are. Then do the same exercise, with an empty bladder, when you have the balls in.

Hugs,

P'Gell

Thank you so much for this, P'Gell! I wasn't really relaxing, I think I was just trying to get them up there without taking the time to listen to my body.
This really helps, and thanks again for your advice!
I really appreciate it
