I can't say that I definitely would or wouldn't, but I can say there is a bit of difference between what you would say homemade and handmade.

For anything that's going to be inserted, definitely not; the safety concerns are pretty obvious on that one. For other types of toys (blindfolds, cuffs, and such), I'd at least consider it, but I'm more likely to stick to well-known and reputable companies for my toy needs.

I've reviewed toys from some Etsy shops before (Jollies, Ttamage, Knotty Wood Arts). All the ones I've tried have been fantastic and totally safe.

I would not buy a homemade toy just because of safety issues. I would be concerned about the quality of the toy and the materials that were used to make it.

I have not in the past, but I could certainly see myself possibly buying homemade leather goods or even a wooden paddle. Why not? Years ago, I made my own spreader bar as well as a small leather flogger, both for just a few dollars. These were two of our earliest BDSM toys. It proved to be Money well spent.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it. I would definitely give consideration to a "homemade" product because that's how so many good brands start.
