Why can't you wear cock rings for an extended time?

I read in a lot of reviews and around the site about not wearing a ring for more than 30 minutes. Why is this? Are these warnings based on someone's study or just something endlessly repeated because someone read it somewhere?

I have no idea where it came from, but the general thought behind it is that you don't want to cut off circulation to any part of the body for too long. It can cause issues, though I'm not sure what kind. lol

For what it's worth, my husband will sometimes wear cock rings for hours. His penis hasn't fallen off yet. When he does it I tell him I'll be mighty pissed if it has to come off over a damned cock ring. lol

I've wondered the same thing, myself. I think it's just a precaution to cover the manufacturers' asses. I doubt wearing a cock ring (esp. a silicone one) for longer than 30 mins. would cause any problems.

My husband says basically what happens if you cut off circulation for an extended period it "kills" that part of the body. So then it has to be removed. Funny that since he knows that he keeps cock rings on so long...

i've known guys that wear them all day with no problems, it depends on how tight yours is, you dont want to cut blood flow completely for too long or it will basically kill it. if your unsure then the 30 min rule is a good one

I think that the rule is usually for metal, wood, and stone which can be so tight that they really don't let any blood through at all. With those tissue death can occur, but if you're using a real stretchy jelly, TPR, or even silicone ring you should be fine for longer.

I think Ryuson is close on this one.

The biggest issue is tissue death. You also have to worry about blood clots in some cases too.

The nice thing about stretchy and mushy rings is that shrinkage after sex can help them fall off when you pass out in bed after a good romp.

An erection is designed to restrict blood flow from the penis, thus causing it to engorge and become erect. In doing so, tissues are deprived of needed oxygen. For a short period of time it is not an issue. However, a prolonged erection, medically known as priapism, can lead to erectile dysfunction and tissue necrosis/death. Thirty minutes is probably well within the safe zone as a precaution. ED products such as Viagra recommend seeking medical attention immediately if an erection lasts for more than 4 hours. And relative risk depends upon how tight the cock ring is.
