I never used a penis pump so i can't comment on that. I have used rings and I recommend starting with an adjustable ring or a silicone ring, as sizing can be very important in rings. I would only get a metal (or other hard material like wood) ring if you have an accurate size measurement of your partner's penis.

I would say a silicone ring also. I have one I am doing a review on and I can say both of you will benefit from it!

silicone ring, there are different sizes - get the bigger one if you don't know his size (usually placed behind the balls and around the shaft)
