Expensive VS Inexpensive

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine 02/16/2012

I have seen some pretty stellar toys on here, that range anywhere from $20 to $200! Now granted, Im a cheap skate and I'll do anything I can to save a buck (even if it means bitching until I am blue in the face for a company to have a sale LOL) BUT.....In all honesty, has anyone found that the more expensive items (that don't seem to have ANY bells and whistles) don't do hardly anything for them like the less expensive, crazy cool toys do? Just wondering, because some of the more expensive $100+ items that I have seen on here are RIDICULOUS in price! I mean, I don't mean to shoot any of them down, Im sure they have their reasons for hiking the prices up, and yes, in most cases you get what you pay for...but judus almighty lol.

Would you be more likely to spend top dollar for one of these toys? Or would you be more apt to spend less money on something that had more functions?

Only reason I ask is because Im looking at a few different "Higher end" toys and Im reluctant because they don't have as much "going on" like the less expensive ones do. I don't wanna get roped into something that isn't going to "rock my world" LOL

I'd love to know this too - I dig the aesthetics on some of the weirder toys, but I have no idea how they work.

Seriously, consider the LELO products. They are high end quality products with a warranty of 1 year free replacement and an additional 9 year coverage at a 50% discount off of ANY LELO product, if your toy ever stops working!

I'd get an uma! I normally pay higher prices for better quality. I normally don't like cheaper toys they aren't the same quality.

I freaking love Je Joue. <3

I think less expensive toys can be good, too, it just depends on what you're looking for.

I'm considering the UFO for future purchasing, though I'm going to wait for reviews.

I love my Ella so far, so I'm looking at maybe getting a Gigi in the future.

I think the quality and longevity of some of the higher end toys actually make them a better value in the long run. I want Uma some day!

We have the Uma in purple, and love it. It is one of my wife's favorite toys to use. The difference in vibration levels between a cheaper toy she had and this are incredible.

I love my Uma. Cheaper toys are generally not rechargeable which Uma is so it doesn't require batteries. Uma is very powerful and I haven't been able to find that power in anything less expensive YET!

I feel like cheaper toys are great for a few months, but more expensive toys are great for a few years. One's an investment.

Sometimes a high price reflects high quality, excellent performance, and durability, but not always. JimmyJane's form line seems like a load of crap to me. Way too expensive for the features, and I've heard too many people say their toys crapped out after a few months (!!!).

I do think pricier toys CAN be worth it, though. I've heard awesome things about the We-Vibe Touch ($80?), which is just a clit vibe. I could get like 12 Cal Exotics clit vibes for that price, but they'd all be buzzy, weaker, and eat batteries. I'd drop the cash to have a rumbly, rechargeable vibe that'll last.

I usually buy inexpensive first and then if I really like it and if there's a higher end product that's similar, then I'll generally consider saving up to buy the higher end product.

I wouldn't mind spending a hundred or two on a really great toy, which worked for me and lasted a long time. But it's so hit or miss! I'm afraid of spending that much, but finding inexpensive toys that work is just as difficult and it adds up.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Je Joue and Lelo. Their toys are beautiful, high quality, made to last and, in my opinion, you can FEEL the price in the texture of the silicone. High quality silicone toys are just a pleasure to touch. I love the feel of it against my skin. Cheap toys just can't compete. They may have bells and whistles but they aren't made for longevity and they just don't feel or look as nice.

I have no cheap toys that come anywhere near my more expensive ones. The cheaper ones never get used. The quality is not as high. The material is also usually lower on safety rating. The power usually lacks. They aren't rechargeable. Many die in a short period of time - some in a week or two. If you want bells and whistles look into Zini. Most of their toys have 10+ patterns and they light up. Don't know how much more you could ask for in terms of bells and whistles. The Seed is weak but the Ran is pretty awesome. In fact, I don't see anything that would qualify as "bells and whistles" on the cheaper items you listed. What do you think the cheaper toys have "going on" that the more expensive ones don't?

The more expensive toys seem to last longer and are better quality. Plus many come with a warranty. I'm actually saving up for the Uma right now, so I voted for that one, but the UFO looks cute so I'm curious to see reviews on it.

I went to a local sex toy store and felt the Uma, and one touch had me convinced that I had to get it for my GF next time I can afford a luxury toy for her

That's how pleasurable the silicone surface feels to my hands.

Kira, I was referring to more of the features. I forgot to list a few of the other ones that I was looking at (The cheaper toys with bells and whistles). I have seen so many of the expensive toys that are pretty basic designs with only one function, where as you can get a $30 or $40 that has a clit stimulator on it, curves for g spot and has about four function for speed and vibrations lol. That is what I mean as far as that goes. All these really expensive ones that I have been seeing are usually very basic, only clit or only g spot or the like. I didn't know that most of those higher end ones were rechargeable so those just got thrown on the wish list LOL!

Fun Factory. Their motor's I feel are mucho bettero and deeper. I also find their products are much more fun looking than most everything else out there on the market. That's why I buy them. I just wish their toys came with storage pouches!!!

I'm glad we could help you. Also, Lelo and Je Joue have warranties. 1 year if anything breaks they'll replace it. Lelo has a 10 year limited warranty where if it breaks within 10 years (after the 1st year warranty has expired) then they'll refund 50% of the price toward another Lelo product. How great is that.

I like softer materials and variety, so most of my toys are in the $20-70 range, but when I do invest in a nicer vibe, it's really worth it for the rechargeable function, the longevity, and the power. I tend to read review after review to see what everyone has to say before I purchase a more expensive product.

I love the warranties on those! I will definitely have to make sure that I make a note of those companies! Thanks for the info

Most of the pricier luxury vibes are rechargeable which is a major factor in the price. But I always feel like money spent on a rechargeable toy is money I'm not going to have to spend on batteries down the line. Lelo, Je Joue, Leaf, Jopen, Zini are a few such lines. Jopen and Leaf don't have all the functions of some of the others but are, by all accounts, super powerful and very high quality materials and most are waterproof as well. Lelo, Je Joue and Zini vibes usually have many speeds and patterns and are (as far as I recall) all rechargeable and really built to last. All the insertable style or g-spot Lelo Vibes except the rabbit ones as well as Je Joue's Uma can be used either internally or clitorally. Sure, Je Joue's Mimi as well as Zini's Seed and Lelo's Lily, Mia, Nea, Siri and Alia are all clit vibes but sometimes that's all you need or want and these all do what they do very well in great quality and great feeling materials, and if you want one that's versatile Lelo's Mona, Liv, Gigi, Elise, Iris, and Isla, Je Joue's Uma and Zini's Ran, just to name a few, can all be used either way quite effectively. Lelo's Ina and Soraya, and Tiani, Je Joue's Fifi and Zini's Hua, Zook and Roae, a BUNCH of the Jopen vibes, and Life's Vitality and Bloom can all stimulate G-spot and clit at the same time. Je Joue and Lelo both also have couple's rings that the man wears that provides stimulation of the woman's clit during PIV sex. I've never really seen any bells and whistles on a low end toy that wasn't done better in safer, higher quality materials in a higher end toy. Most of the luxury lines also have excellent warranties as a few other posters have mentioned. I feel like $100-200 is very reasonable for a nice rechargeable vibe. Longevity, quality, safety and, as I mentioned before, just the sheer feel of the higher end toys are well worth the price IMO. Plus, the higher end toys almost always have the cheap ones beat in appearance.

every one says you get what you pay for.
And quite honestly its true. my opinion is that if your going to spend the money on something for yourself, get something worthy of yourself! do you want a million crappy toys or one or two mind blowing toys? id rather splurge once in a while that will last and be amazing then go cheap and have it either preform poorly and break.

keep in mind that the more expensive item tend to come with a warranty! and that my friend is worth it.

"I feel like $100-200 is very reasonable for a nice rechargeable vibe. " Charletnarouh

*grumbles* I so disagree with this when you are saving up for something!!! Then 100-200 really seems not worth it!!! Because of the wait. But yes!!! I do agree!!! 100-200 is very reasonable for a toy that will last years and years.

Think of it like this... brand computer parts. You are paying for the name, the quality, the reputation, the research, the testing, the history and the evolution of the part and most important, the warranty or even the extended warranty. Then you get the HelloKitty line (oh yeah... welcome to Asia... do you get the computer line for HelloKitty over there?) or others like it, where you great and fun product, but none of the warranty, lesser quality parts etc... Put it this way, when you shop for make-up at say Walmart you get hit and miss for Walmart brands, sometimes you get the most amazing product that suits you just fine and lasts forever... but more often than not, you don't. But if you go to a store like Sephora... your chances of hits are much higher, the products last longer. Chances are they might be the same colour, but staying power or ingredients and others will be very different.

I started buying toys that I wanted, and as my Toy Box got fuller and fuller, I started getting more and more selective. Because I had to learn what I liked and what I didn't like.

Yup. This is pretty much exactly what I was going to post.

For dual stimulation I would go with the Vr3 if you don't mind not having patterns. If you want the fancy stuff, Zini makes quite a few dual action toys with G spot curves and clit simulators that have multiple functions. Lelo Soraya is another that has multiple functions and is dual stimulation. Je Joue's Fifi didn't do it for me but does have clit and G spot stimulation with multiple functions.
