I haven't noticed that with mine, though to be honest I don't run it that long.

All the smaller wands overheat when they are used for over 5-10 minutes. You need to shut it off and unplug it until it cools down or you will burn up the motor. I have burnt three of them up within a couple of weeks due to overheating. If the noise increases, it has already sustained a bit of damage. You can still prolong the life of the wand by taking proper precautions in the future.

bummer...was thinking of buying one - not now - oh well

I've lost several wands to overheating. I just never notice in the heat of the moment(pun totally intended).
