The back has screws that you unscrew it has a really weird battery on it 27 A or something like that. I wouldn't recommend this as I have had two now and both broke within hours of us getting them the first we used for maybe an hour and the second we turned it on to see if it worked and it did then I put it in a drawer for the night I went and tried it in the morning and it doesn't work yet again. UGH

Yes there are screws but I have had mine for quite some time and have not needed to change the batteries. Just make sure you remove the batteries out of the egg after use or they drain down overnight. We have lots of fun with this egg.
