I killed my Wahl....again

Contributor: P'Gell P'Gell
*sob* After our first Wahl (we call it "The Mixmaster") seemed to be starting to lack power, I bought a new one, in December to replace it.

We used it Thursday night and it was fine, then Friday morning, fine again. I turned it on last night (Friday night) and it started making this horrible noise. Like a power drill. My Man suggested I change my attachments. So, I put on a different attachment and was still making the noise. The only thing that seemed to make it quiet enough to use (our youngest was still awake and downstairs and we didn't want any attention) was to hold the attachment while the item was running. So, I held onto the attachment and thankfully got where I needed to be quickly.

After we were done. I thought maybe one of the screws that hold it together were loose. So, I found my tool box (it's midnight at this point) and tightened the screws. Still noisy. I think I broke it.

I did grab my old one, but when I compared them, the older one seems to have a lot less power. My guess is the peg the attachments go onto is loose and that is not only making the noise but also making it vibrate even more. (Is this the reason I've been coming in record time in the last few weeks?)

It isn't usable in this condition (too loud) and although the old one is very quiet (as a Wahl is supposed to be) I'm worried it might not be strong enough to get me to come. *sigh*

My first one lasted me years and still runs and never made noise like this. I am tempted to run to Frys this morning and just grab a new one. I would order one from Eden, but I have to put in an order and have my heart set on the Devine ToyChest in Midnight Black. It's been out of stock for weeks and I don't want to put in an order only for the Wahl, as the shipping will be expensive.

Is a little over 6 months the expected life of a Wahl? Any idea what might be wrong and if there is a way to fix it? I think it's not usable at this point.

It does sound like something is loose, and no, 6 months does not sound like the normal life expectancy for a Wahl. Is there a product warranty or have you tried to contact Wahl directly?

One of the unfortunate side effects of having a clit of steel.

LOL! Thanks, Kindred.

Also, I have a short ability to postpone gratification. I just ordered the one with heat from Ama***, since I needed to get some books for my little one anyway, and the price was good. (We have Prime Shipping so no charge for small orders.)

I want to save my points for the Devine Toy Chest (please get it in stock soon) and probably the Elegance G4 from Fun Factory. That last thing I needed was to get whapped with a $40.00 charge out of nowhere.

My Man warned me I'd burn it out. *sigh* It STILL the best vibrating toy on the planet. For some reason I need that particular frequency. Only Wahl seems to do it for me.

No, I haven't contacted Wahl. I probably abused the poor thing, anyway.

I would still try to contact Wahl. Maybe there was a batch with a known defect. Either way, even with heavy usage, it should not break after just 6 months.

I'll send you mine, I can't stand the freakin' thing!

I probably should. It didn't occur to me that it was a defective batch. I never had a single problem with it until last night. No warning just BZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

LOL! I'm sorry. Different.... strokes. For me, the Wahl is the perfect frequency. Everybody's body is different.

I never used it for that purpose, actually. I bought it for back rubs, used it once and tossed it into the bottom of the drawer.

It's just too big for my itty-bitty body. It actually causes pain! I want the mini-Wahl or the Fairy Wand.

Hmm, it seems a waste to not use it. Could you maybe use something to absorb some of the power? Perhaps place something like a large Ziploc bag filled with water between you and the Wahl to absorb some of the vibrations? You could even heat/cool the water depending on the experience you're looking for. Just thinking out loud as usual...

Great suggestions but it's not like I get a whole lot of backrubs anyway. It's like pulling teeth. I might just drop it off at my mom's. She seems to dig stuff like that.

Just thinking out loud here...

On my moms old Wahl and my Wahl hair trimmer, there are adjustments for the brushes. They are typically a flat head screw in the side of the trimmers. If you turn that in or out it adjusts the speed of the blades. I do not see this screw in the pic's of the Wahl here on EF so it may be they are inside. It may be worth taking it apart to see if there is maybe an adjustment inside. If there is it may also fix the older one you have.

I wish I had one or a way of looking inside one to help you out.

Awwwww, sorry to hear that, P'Gell. I was so saddened when my Fairy Miniature died that after taking it apart to show Dwtim (in case he could suggest how to fix it), that I waited almost a WEEK to throw it away. It was so perfect... And I even still have a silicone attachment for it... *plays taps for all the dead or dying beloved toys*

Thanks, Tim. You gave me the courage to fix my The Body vibrator. (Although, I'm a girl and I fixed it with nail glue. )

Anyway, I ordered a new Wahl with the heat attachment (I'm thinking really stiff muscles and month cramps) from Ama*** on Saturday, for some reason it came on SUNDAY! It seems a little weaker than my broken loud one, but stronger than my old one (which I replaced because I think its power was going south.) My Man came into the bedroom in the morning with the box and said, "What the hell did you order now?" I just looked at him. *Blink* What did he think I ordered?

I may take apart the one I bought in Dec to see what's going on. Thanks. It's not like I can do it any harm. I am interested to see what a "coil vibrator" looks like, too.

I agree with Kindred. I use mine pretty rigorously and it's made it far longer than that. At least trying to contact Wahl can't hurt, right?

Adding on to Kindred's thought, for anyone that's interested: I think I might have actually learned this from P'Gell, Queen of the Wahl herself, but if you have a dildo, or even a vibrator that's died but you like the shape of, holding either the funnel-ish shaped or the suction cup-like Wahl attachment on the bottom end turns it into a pretty impressive vibrator.

My first wahl is on the fritz after near daily use of 2.5 years. It is a very sad thing. Mine is something wrong with the cord. I have to hold the wire a certain way otherwise it'll turn off on me. :'(

Have you ever contacted Wahl to inquire about the warranty? I am just wondering what kind of warranty they provide for those.
