Just ordered one for my fiance as a surprise, I also picked up a base/stand for it from another site. She loves a good solid strong vibration, so I have a feeling this will do the trick. It should be great to see how she reacts when I place her on the base with the Hitachi in it.
One thing I have found is that if you get a light dimmer from a hardware store you can set the Hitachi on high, but more precisely control its power with the dimmer. This way, it wont be such a shock. They currently sell "wand controllers" but from some research these are cheaply made, preform badly, and are expensive. A quality light dimmer will run about $10 from a hard ware store, rather than 40 for a crappy item.

I have it, it's sitting in the back of my closet in case of emergencies (if the batteries crap out on us).
I don't use the Hitachi per se but my gf does and I hate it.
Cons: bulky and wire gets in the way between us. Not suitable for partners and I would never let my gf take it home with her LOL. I still want her to want me, so if she takes home the Hitachi, there would be no reason for her to come over anymore . So all toys stay at my house lol.
Other con is that it's strong, but at the same time it's not. The head is too big and broad which the gf does not like. This is why I got the "Off with her head" attachment in color black. Still to bulky so i just ended up getting a mimi
