My first toy was the High Intensity Bullet. It's really simple to use, easy to hold, cheap, and discreet.

My first was the Finger Fun and I still love it to this day. It's got varying speeds and is small and easily hidden. Plus the material is soft and nubby.

I have reviewed a lot of toys and my Seduction by Evolved is still my favorite. It's hygenic, satiny plastic and waterproof, and has three descreet speeds. It's a good price and is awesome for either clitoral or insertable stimulation. Here's my video review which might help!

I'd recommend the Lelo Siri. It is strong, quiet, but still high quality. It has a warranty. Overall, it is not only worth the money, but something that will last and be just as good as a second, third, and fourth toy. (etc etc)

Well, anybody can recommend you a vibe, dear, but no one will be able to know for sure what works for your friend. Everyone has a different body, and while there are definitely certain aspects that most of us bend to, her needs may vary drastically. If she is comfortable telling you, perhaps posting what she may like to look for in a vibe would be the best information for us to go by.

If not, I think you should go for something with no frills, basic, and fairly cheap, but still has a nice variety of functions for her to play with. I'm not even going to say "inexpensive" here. While one can argue that you get what you pay for, it's much worse to pay for a more expensive vibe and find out it doesn't work for you.

If this is her first, she should keep it simple, use a common safe material, like plastic, and make her own assessment of her needs based off of that. Plastic is a great starting point for both insertion and clitoral stimulation because it's firm for g-spot play, transmits vibes well in both areas, and inexpensive. She can really get a feel if she needs something more flexible and softer or something harder and rigid after using plastic.

That being said, I recommend Cupid's Love Wand: link

It's slim, quiet, no frills, and made of plastic, and functional. It does have a light seam, but it appears to not be too noticeable. Cupid also has a variety of functions that are easily controlled by the click of a button so it's simple, but she has a lot of room to experiment on her clit and insertion wise and will really get an idea of what she could want later, or she could be satisfied with this~. It's also a fair lavender with a cute cord with a heart on it, just in case~. I can't say that is intimidating at all. And a fair price on top of it and a great bang for your buck.

That being said, I still don't know what her specific needs are. It's possible she can handle more girth than a slim vibe, or she could be like me and wasn't able to handle even an inch for awhile, so, I'm not sure how experienced she is with insertion, but I wanted her to get a variety of opportunities with her first vibe, so, I didn't pick a bullet or pocket rocket which is mainly for the clit. I hope this helps.

I'm agreeing with Chul, that we can recommend all day long, but we're never going to know for sure what works for you. And also with that being said, my first was something like the Velvet Touch from Doc Johnson.

It's hard to know what she will like.

I wrote an article for EdenCafe about Toys for Beginners. You may want to read it and go from there.

I do wish I had put the Nasstoys Ultimate Massager pocket rocket as part of this article. It is the best rocket on the market. But, the article is still helpful for many.

Good luck.

If it's not a surprise gift, what you could try is picking out a few that you think she might like, and sending her a comparison. That way she can give you some guidance about what she is attracted to.

If it is a surprise, I would look at getting her a small clitoral vibrator, or a massager type toy, like the Mystic Wand. Preferably something with multiple speeds. The search feature on this site is great, and you can search for vibes depending on price range, material, etc.

Thank you.

It may need to be updated in a few months, though. New stuff comes out all the time.

I just bought my friend her first vibrator, and I picked out the Je Joue Mimi.

It's really hard to pick out a first toy.

My first vibrator was way too weak and crappy and put me off trying toys again for a long time.

On the other hand, some people are more sensitive and would find a really strong toy to be too much.

I think the MiMi *is* a really good "first toy". It's pretty, doesn't look sexual, and the settings go from barely there to quite powerful - a good range that would hopefully work for most people.

On a smaller budget, I think a cheap but powerful and adjustable smoothie serves the same purpose (although they're a teensy bit more phallic). A pretty bullet might be nice, too.

Another thing you can't know is if they'll prefer deep or buzzy feelings, so it might be wise to go for a less expensive toy to experiment with so they can get a feel for it first.

Here are some low/mid priced toys that I had as a beginner.

Black Magic Kit: A great collection of different toys.
Wahl 2-Speed Massager: She will love you forever if you buy this and a nice quality dildo.
Wanachi Mini: Can be used for internal and external stimulation.
Jenna's Velvet Jewels: Inexpensive but a good toy to experiment with.

My suggestion is one of two things and it depends on how close you are. First you can window shop vibrators online with her and watch to see what she is drawn to. This is how my hubby bought me my first vibrator and it was bang on. A nice basic multi speed shaft that was just the right size, I still love it. But that does require you to have a pretty close relationship.

My second suggestion is a good old gift card, honestly I don't tend to buy many toys for myself but if given a gift card I suddenly have an excuse to go shopping and be adventurous.

Hope that helps
