Celibate for 5 years. No symptoms but can I still have an STI/STD?

I'm basically a hypochondriac. I shouldn't have even looked at this section of the forum because the subject always freaks me out. I've been tested in the past and haven't had anything come up but haven't been tested after my last partner, 5 years ago. I maintain communication with him and he hasn't said anything. We're really close. I'm going to get tested before I have sex with my guy but I'm just wondering.

What is the chance? I'm getting the tests but I need a little bit of reassurance or insight because of my serious hypochondria :/

Also was sick recently, had numerous non specific blood tests and urine tests from the ER and they didn't really stop me or tell me anything bad.

I wouldn't think it's very likely, but it's always good to get tested.

Go get tested. You're probably fine, but some things can lay dormant for years.

I would think you'd be fine but like the previous poster said get tested to be 100%.

As a fellow hypochondriac I say just get tested for the state of mind. But I really doubt its anything. I know how it is to freak out all the time over things pertaining to health. Lucky for me it runs in my family so I didnt stand a chance.

I found a knot on my neck yesterday and I was FREAKING out about it. But my boyfriend was like I really dont think you have to worry it doesn't feel attached to anything. Ill probably still be worried but I know its probably nothing.

I agree, pretty unlikely, but getting tested is never a bad idea, especially if you're worried. Peace of mind is worth a lot!

That might be a lymph node. I found mine a few months ago and I check em OCD-like.

Anyway thanks all. I'm feeling much better about it especially since I kinda realized the tests I was given recently would've found something abnormal if I had a STI/STD for that long. Like liver or kidney abnormalities, blood cell etc.

Still going to get a full panel so I don't miss anything.

I thought that but its pretty far back and only one side. Its on my right side about 5 6 inches below my ear and about one inch back from my ear.

There are several STD's that can be asymptomatic, so it's a good idea to get tested before starting any new relationship. However, you need to specify that you want to be tested for STD's, regular blood test do not generally test for STD's.

Yeah I have one lymph node that is over the muscle and can be felt easier than the one on the other side. As long as it does't seem attached, like your boyfriend said, it's prolly a lymph node. Mine are squishy bit still kinda firm.
