Condoms?

So I see a lot of reviews that say you should use a condom over a toy. If you aren't sharing them with anyone, is this necessary?

I typically buy silicone, but I have thought about other materials. I don't want to have to go buy condoms to use on a toy if it really isn't necessary, and I don't want to buy toys that require their use.

Not they are not necessary but if they are porous, like anything other than, silicone, metal or glass, I would just because of safety concerns.

Using a condom over a toy is not necesary but it keeps the toy clean and may be a quicker and easier way to make sure bacteria doesn't get into the toy's pores if it is rubber, silicone, etc.
