My school had a great sex ed program but I know many schools are lacking for sure.

Our sex ed class wasn't so informative and I'm sure it hasn't gotten much better over the years. I'd love to see better sex ed in the schools.

I went to Catholic school and got absolutely no form of sexual education in school. From what I have heard from friends etc the regular school system wasn't necessarily that much better although at least they talk about it.

we need more affective sex ed, and they need to give out a lot more information. no BS abstinence ONLY crap. what happens when they don't listen and get an std or pregnant? should've taught them to be safe if they weren't going to obstain. and really...what teenagers do???

I think there needs to be more sex education EVERYWHERE. In the home and at school. Especially since you can't really teach values so much in school, more just convey information. Whatever values a parent wants to teach their child about sex should come from the parent, not just in the school.

I also think there needs to be more body education in general, and not just sex education. I think people need to know more about their own bodies, how they work, how your genitals change as you age, etc. Because I lot of folks get hung up thinking their genitals are "ugly" when they're perfectly normal.

My school didn't give us any information about safe sex. The sex part of our health book was completely skipped over. Even the college I go to doesn't really talk about sex in the health class. It is the Women's Resource Center that gives out information about sex. It's rather sad. The less info the higher the rates of STDs and unwanted pregnancies.

I only remember having sex ed in school at a time when it felt completely irrelevant to me because I wasn't really interested in sex. By the time I started having sex I was in college, and there didn't seem to be a lot of resources available. I think it's important for sex ed in school to be based on facts without having a moral slant, and to not be too focused on "abstinence"- especially when kids are being bombarded with so much information about sex from other outlets, they should be able to get the honest facts from a sex ed program without feeling guilty about being interested in sex.

Needs to be better. Mine was pretty good (although it totally left out any mention of clitoris, orgasm, etc. which was sort of dumb) but I've heard some places have just HORRIBLE sex ed prgrams

I think oral sex and masturbation should be a bigger part of sex ed, it is too neglected

Oh totally agreed. But I would say that kids need to receive re-enforcement of positive sex ed from all communities in there lives. I also agree that every aspect of sex should be covered. The acts, how to do it safely, how to get tested, what diseases are actually out there. Go beyond the normal ones. What emotionally goes into relationships. What does all this new technology mean. Etc, etc.

This should be an absolute requirement instead of the censorship that still claims most of the schools across America.

Sex ed in my school was uninspiring. Fortunately my mom had a copy of Our Bodies, Ourselves lying around, which I read with great attention to detail

I think that what the schools should do is allow parents to come during that week of Sex Ed and they have to stay quiet during it. This way the parents can see what is being said and discussed and can help supplement what is taught in class.

I am very honest with my children when they come to me with questions. Of course they are only 5 and 9 so I do keep it age appropriate. Just listen to them and be honest, never judge and leave your "OMG" eyes for when you are alone and reflecting on their curiosity. Always keep your cool in front of them with sex topics.

I was born and raised in Florida and the only "Sex Ed" i remember is a the boys and girls being separated and watching a video about the chemical reactions that occur during puberty and how you will slowly develop during your teen years

We need comprehensive sex ed in schools starting at a young age, and every year, until kids graduate.
